Good point, GW, the prosthesis should totally have been a swappable alternative for the figure.

Just placed a preorder. I don't like the prosthesis but this guy will be the perfect incentive for me to finish my blacksmith's workshop.

The props have collected a lot of rust and dust, which saves me from having to weather them. Razz

I’ve PO’d this figure and plan to work on a forge diorama build, although I’m a little nervous as I haven’t picked a specific era, which appeared to get some folks fired up in your thread (sorry bad pun). I want to use some real stone on this one, as I don’t seem to like making it too easy….

Thanks so much for adding the link back to your project, your work looks great and I hope this fires up your enthusiasm to return to it. The re-purposing of the grinding stone is such a good idea.

I wouldn't let that hold you back. I'm sure they chose a deliberately broad term like 'Middle Ages' for a reason. I haven't studied this as my life's work, admittedly, but to my knowledge Shazzdan's quite right there - very little would've changed in the craft/industry over hundreds of years, and buildings and premises would often be handed down through the ages to family/apprentices with little structural change.

If anything, it's only the figure itself that potentially limits your scope IMO (that prosthesis again), he seems a little more era-specific than the setting/subject is, to me. Without the prosthesis (and with slightly simpler clothing IMO) I think he'd be more difficult to pin down, but FWIW, I think he actually looks more early-16th to mid-18th century. That would have him hail from beyond the Middle Ages, but still using those trusted tools and techniques.

(although that last opinion could just be my own confirmation bias at work Smile , seeing as I'm firmly placing him during the English Civil War period)

I have to admit that alongside some real-world distractions I'd become a little jaded on the hobby over the last six months or so, but the prospect of this set seems to have reignited my enthusiasm quite a bit. I haven't been this excited about a full set for quite some time (if ever, to be honest).

Here's the prototype from Wonderfest '23 in case anyone hasn't seen it.

He looks great....I like the fact that his face looks so weathered from many years of being a Blacksmith. Sometimes the edgy hard looking characters are the best designs.

Agreed. He looks very well. Of course, it's a prototype, but that's still better than a computer render.

It's just been released. Would love to take some photos and share them as soon as I get my hands on it. But shipping will take at least a month by sea (shipping by air to Australia is expensive).

Paid my invoice. Looking forward to this. This fellow may end up replacing my Westworld blacksmith (I’ll just make him something else).
