I got the name Ogre from a book I have read a few times , in the book Ogre was not an M.60 Gunner , however I felt it a fitting name for My M.60 Gunner . I kitted Ogre out with a customised asbestos glove , which was used to change the barrel on the M.60 , the barrels could get very hot or even burnt out from continuous bursts against the approaching enemy . He has oil and an old tooth brush for keeping the beast clean . Apart from the belts of ready ammo worn in Mexican style crossed over his chest , he carries a box of ammo strapped over his shoulder . More often than not there would be an assistant gunner , it was his job to help feed the 60 , and run for more ammo which was distributed amongst the men in the squad . Another popular name for the M.60 in Vietnam was the Pig . It was a heavy weapon to carry around . The M.60 Gunners were a hot target for the Vietcong and NVA , and many gunners had the sense when they could to constantly keep changing position , life expectancy for these guys was statistically short . A common sight for Marine Gunners was to wedge their K.Bar knife behind the holster of their pistol . I like having the different sculpts for " Ogre " , as you can portray him in need of anger management , and when he is feeling more at peace .
There are a couple of pics showing an assistant gunner poring on oil in an attempt to keep the barrel cool .....
