I like these. Is God of War a game?

This looks more based (although not quite that good) of Andy Whitfield in Spartacus the Showtime series.

Color me confused...   I was going to post the following:  "Anyone who is willing to pay $260+ for this will almost automatically be paying the extra $100 for a seamless body swap, and when will HYToys learn this, so they can make a little extra money directly and stop the wasted plastic of the discarded jointed bodies."  And then I remembered that apparently HYToys did learn precisely this, and they made HH18046 Empire Legion Undefeated Myth on a TBL M34 body.  So what's happening here?  Is it a regression or a step backwards, or did the other figure not get enough pre-orders to be successful, or what? Did they just now remember they have a stockpile of old jointed bodies to consume?  Undefeated Myth is HH18046 while this one HH18052, so it doesn't seem to be the case that this is simply an older jointed design where Undefeated Myth represents the new seamless way going forward.  But what's the scoop?

If people display these two Gladiators together, both from HY, and only a few months apart, the discrepancy of jointed next to seamless will stand out like a sore thumb.

I like these well enough, although I think I have my Spartacus "needs" covered. These remind me of the CM sets, and ACI did them too, maybe others as well. I suppose they sell. I might try to get some parted-out parts. I liked Andy Whitfield in the role and am very sorry for his passing. These head sculpts do not quite match his appearance; I also wish by now someone did a rendition of Liam McIntyre, his successor in the same role.



MBAM, that's right, while most of the HH and HY gladiators have hard-plastic open-jointed bodies, some have used a TBLeague M34 body, like the recently-released two versions of the Gaul Warrior Set, based on a character from the same series (HH18037).

Oh no!  I was hoping that their pattern was a movement towards adopting Seamless, maybe with a few irregularities.  But it looks more like they just tried to go seamless for 3 figures only (almost in a row) and then back to Jointed thereafter.  I hope that's not the case.  There's no logic either where Gladiators with more exposed Joints would get Seamless -- this latest one proves that. How do you read those tea leaves?

You can't get away with jointed bodies for these kinds of figures any more.

This^ There is literally no excuse except to demand top dollar for subpar effort and increase profit margin.

The jointed bodies are a puzzle. Maybe profit margins need bumping up a bit? The last figure is wearing so little that a seamless body is essential if he is not to look toy-like. In spite of that, depending on the price I am really interested in these two.

Good point about Profit Margins, but that's kinda weird too.  The pattern with HY Toys seems to be that the figures are generally going up in price, with inflation, Covid, and shipping costs, but to my eyes it doesn't look like the prices differentiate those 3 figures that have TBL/seamless bodies.  (I used Toy Square prices as listed online). Of course it's imperfect math because you have to compare the number and quality of accessories etc.  It looks to me like the 3 times HY Toys went TBL Seamless, they didn't build in a price hike for it -- which makes those specific figures a much better value, in principle, but I couldn't blame HY Toys if they thought the experiment hurt their margins.  Happy to tell HY Toys that I for one wouldn't mind paying a reasonable add-on cost when they go TBL Seamless.
