Weeeeell, I usually pay upfront. If I only pay for the deposit, then I don't care about future finances, because I can always write off the deposit and cancel. Doesn't matter how finances are when it is announced. You have to worry about finances when it is ready for shipping, which will be a year or more after the preorder.
