Dinos + Doll

I've been working on a big diorama since the beginning of July, which still requires several more components. It had me a bit burnt out, then last week I had some drama on another forum, which left me feeling burnt out with the hobby.

I didnt want to let someones ignorant behavior put me off of a hobby which I've been involved with one way or another since I was a child. So last night I took some pictures for KimonoTroopCommands alien and damsel in distress thread.

My first contribution had an alien. Last night I went to an the overgrown bit of my flowerbed with some forced perspective with dinos and a phicen doll.

First we meet the queen of the forest.

This was my first contribution which was more in theme with aliens. My contribution starring Brooke and AvP Xenomorph.





I felt the dropped handbag/purse and spilled beauty accessories looked a bit misogynistic, but opted to include it. Other members on MWD thought it was fine.

I love the shot of the Phicen with the dinos. Very good posing and good camera-angles.

These are all really good, Sarah. Don't mind the purse (or it's contents) -- don't really see anything misogynistic about it since most women carry a purse with stuff in it (even my wife, who is the least "girly" woman I know). All of the forced perspective shots are awesome. I have a couple Jurassic Park dinos myself, and bought a crap ton of stuff to make a jungle diorama (for both Tarzan and Jane, and an original character I came up with decades ago for a never-completed comic book I started while recuperating in the Rammstein AFB hospital back in 1989 -- the dinos are for that character, not Tarzan).

Sorry to hear you got some crap on another forum; sadly, the internet has it's pros and cons. The pros are you get to see what people from all over the world are doing, the bad -- the anonymity of it makes people feel they can spew their nonsense, lies and misinformation with zero consequences. Don't give up what you love due to small-minded A-holes.

I suppose you're right Stryker2011! It's ironic, the drama on the other forum all stemmed from trying to be considerate, and being careful to not offend. I'm actually pretty hard to offend. I just think if we provide a fair warning, then anything goes.

I think you should crack out the dinosaurs and make that diorama! I'd love to see that! 🦖🦕

I don't see how the purse is misogynistic (though the suggestion that it is that might be misogynistic itself), but it just occurred to me that a slight adjustment would solve that "problem" and work perfectly in your storyline: the shotgun was in the purse.

I love your scenes, figures, and photos, outdoors, indoors, all. Beautiful work, and keep on going with it.

Really love that second picture with a full 1/6 figure appearing so tiny (!).  Perspective really works here.
I remember when I saw that giant Dino for the first time in a store, it's really an amazing piece and made me directly think of 1/6. Sadly/glady there are not dinosaurs in my universes (yet?).

And whenever I see that kind of little 'in scale' shrubbery outside I have to think of 1/6, it's kinda mental haha.

At first I didn't realize the handbag and the gun pics were separate versions, thought the gun was among the handbags contents. Maybe she could get that tiny gun from Men in Black to one shot the beast, haha. Here I liked the black and white version the best. Always thought the less you see of the Alien and the more obscure and in shadow it appears, the scarier it is.

Stryker made a great summary of the internet in 2022. You can be discouraged for a while, but try to get back some time later like you did now.

So true right! Being at university currently I see this alot. People try so hard to be "woke" but don't realize this "wokeness" (is that a word even) actually leads to them having the opposite effec of what they set out to achieve in being sensitive or politically correct.

I am so grateful to hear that! I have a big project I've been working on. I hope to share it before the end of August if I can get on with the remaining parts.

I feel like these photos helped get me out of my little slump.

Oh these look fantastic! I love the shots taken from above as they really give a great sense of scale. Normally I get a bit annoyed when figs are shot from a kind of bird’s eye perspective as it always tanks the realism but here it works perfectly, especially when the girl is in focus and you just see the blurry beginnings of her potential doom in the foreground…

I really want some dinos for this exact kind of thing myself! I was out with a friend recently who had one of the Jurassic World dinos and we had a tiny photoshoot before someone’s kid ran over at the beach and kept trying to grab our figs so we had to pack them up

He’s still in one piece, fear not! I think his new friend prefers muffins to doggos at any rate!

Oh, Julips are a very niche brand of model horse I collect, and there’s shows for them with other collectors where we all get together and have a natter, and basically just ogle each other’s collections. Live showing, as it’s called, in the wider model horse hobby is very popular and there can be a lot of money involved as people want the most realistic models and tack, but at Julip shows it’s all about having a good laugh and not taking things too seriously. They aren’t supposed to be realistic to begin with anyway.

Aww... very cute. Dino and doggo and horses all. I knew it was not about a southern drink!

The second pic is a winner for sure. Well done with the perspective and a cool comic story to boot.

And as a big Alien fan, I'm also enjoying your second photo strip. Such a cool "monster"-design. I fear the worst even if she can fire off that weapon. Acid and all.

perspective of the first two is awesome. We rarely have something that big to team the figures up with. looks so cool (though I am no particular fan of Dinos).

at Lynkheart: damn it, but Baxter always looks so lifelike. He could pass as a real dog at times…

These are great! Nothing like outdoor photos. I wish I had a private outdoor space for things like this. I worry that if my neighbors saw me they might have me committed.

Today I was riding on a cyclingroad, passing a square. From the corner of my eye I noticed someone crouched down taking pics of what looked like barbiedolls. She was on the edge of the square, on a quiet spot. A bit further the square was fairly crowded, but it didn't look like anyone was paying attention to what she was doing.

Honestly I've had my neighbour's peek. Usually they say hi and keel going when I'm on the front doing a vehicle shoot.

I think I told this story here once, but many years ago I was at home during the day and decided to try some pictures in the back yard. Setup and started snapping away and after a while I noticed the retired couple next door standing at the end of the yard watching me with who do we call to have him taken away looks on their faces. I haven't tried an outdoor shoot since. Always dreamed of having a place with many acres of land to do that without worries of someone watching. Oh, that would be nice. Room to setup vehicles, camps, maybe make a little western town or a little 1:6 cabin in the woods. Maybe get some of those neat 1;6 scale RC jeeps and make a little trail.

That’s honestly the dream isn’t it? I’ve got a little trough I’m planning on planting up and decorating to make a little scrap of garden for Max and Juno, but it’s not really what I’m after. In an ideal world I’d have big raised beds in the garden and build a whole landscape, or, in an even more ideal world, a whole 1/6 miniature village.

Yep. To be able to build my own Western Town (like Marwencol) in the yard, or have some place to do outdoor shoots would be awesome. Sadly, I don’t have that luxury — not, at least, without setting the neighbors on high alert.
