Another Mongolian breed, I think. But it's not really doing it for me, personally. I'm guessing the 'ewe neck' is their way of exaggerating a feature of that breed of horse, but it just looks kinda wonky, particularly in that pose. I think this is one that is just too specific for me to consider. Unfortunate, as I do like some of the coat colours on this one.

I like it for the most part, but somehow it also looked weird to me, too. So I'm glad Sky confirmed it. Also, perhaps because of sheer ignorance, I don't really like the neck folds/creases on any horse.

Neck folds and creases are normal and happen in real life, though. I suppose it may not always be depicted 100% perfectly on the models, but it's something that happens in real horses when they bend their necks.

My issue with this latest Mr. Z model is the pose. It seems awkward and the neck is held at an odd angle which exaggerates its already atypical shape. But then I also did not like the other horse Mr. Z recently did either, if I am being honest, as I likewise thought the pose a bit unrealistic. I don't know if they've ever gotten a pose totally perfect, but there are models that were much better than others. The Shire horses, the Thoroughbred, the Yili, and the Mongolian horses were all fairly ok. And while the Akhal-Teke isn't perfectly posed, I personally find it more aesthetically pleasing and more versatile as a mount for figures than these more recent ones.

I'd love if Mr. Z would finally do some Iberian/Baroque horses, but it seems like they are going for more Asian breeds lately.

Thanks for explaining, Sky. Yes, I see what you mean. Of course, those horses have their head tucked in very far, no wonder they're creasing. Smile
How about some Belgian draft horses? Or Viennese prancing ones (I forgot what they're called).

Belgian drafts are very cute, but I would not have much use for them in my collection as I am primarily interested in riding horses.

And oh, you mean Lipizzaner?  Yes, they are considered a Baroque breed, so automatically included on my 'wishlist'. ;D

ETA: Just remembered... even this famous Quadriga sculpture depicts the horses with neck wrinkles. Wink

Yes, Lipizzaner. This girl took me to a show in Vienna. Very cool.
As for the quadriga sculpture, I'm sold. I love wrinkles now! Smile
I consider this the classic horse look, yet never noticed. Is my Mr Z "Hanoverian" about as close as they've come to it?

LOL, glad you could change your mind on the 'wrinkles' (which is really just the looser skin that allows movement in those areas).

I would say that, yes, I suppose the 'Hanoverian' would be closest to this type of horse thus far, if only because of it's smaller stature and also has the closest body type (more compact, rounded, etc).

My personal ideal model horse would be of Iberian type (such as the Andalusian, Lusitano, etc) simply because it lends itself to so many possible 'uses'. Those breeds were strongly influenced by more ancient breeds that are now extinct, as well as themselves subsequently influencing other breeds and horse types of the modern world. So imo an Andalusian or Lusitano could easily stand in for anything from military to western to dressage to fantasy or medieval mount. Not only do I love those horses aesthetically, but I also find them perfect for a wide variety of 1/6 scenarios. Don't get me wrong, it's neat to see Mr. Z doing specific niche breeds, but sometimes I do wish for a 1/6 horse that was a little more versatile.

I agree completely. It would make sense to have their bases covered with some more generic-looking (or rather ones that lend themselves to a more universal look) first, then branch out into the overly specific. And, of course, if you are a fan of a particular breed, you run the risk of being stuck with whatever pose Mr Z chooses for it.
Glad to hear from an expert like you that the Hanoverian is indeed pretty close to these. Maybe that is why the size of the Mr Z horse (I think there was universal agreement that it was slightly undersized) never bothered me.

I think the pose looks like the horse is directing the attention towards the rider sitting on top, which is why it looks okay with a rider and harness, but awkward without. I really like it with rider and harness. But there are definitely other models I'd prefer, like the one they used to demonstrate that the gear fits others, too. THAT is still one of my favourites.

No horse expert, but doesn't the head look a bit like the beloved Ily horse everybody in the hobby wants? Smile

The head is ok, but the neck shape and position look odd to me, personally.

I’m with Sky for the most part, especially the ewe neck, but I actually kind of like the awkwardness of it as I’ve noticed that a lot of the Asian breeds are a little more primitive in build than the better known western breeds, probably because they’re bred purely for function rather than appearance. That said, the foreleg that’s on the ground looks a bit off somehow and the horse’s expression seems a bit uncomfortable. At a push it could possibly pass as a gaited breed, maybe a saddlebred cross or something because they have a similarly upright neck and head carriage.

Lynkhart -- agree on the paintjobs, they are indeed getting better. Which is why it's a shame I don't like the pose/sculpt more.

It's not even the ewe neck that is the issue necessarily, it's more just the overall pose of the model seems awkward. If the horse had the same neck but it was held a little lower, it probably wouldn't bother me as much (such as if it were posed in a way that was more suited for mounted archery or something).

Interesting that they are from something called Phicen shop.

You can use the insert image button (in the 4th box of buttons above the text field) with the direct link from servimg.com pasted in as many times as you want. Or, if you prefer it in code, as follows, but remove all blank paces:

You are very welcome. Of course, doing it this way, you have to do it individually for each image, but you can have dozens of images in a single post.
