Nice effect. Good for Lord of the Rings fantasy armour but not for chainmail.

yeah, ideally I wanted the silver material and preferably a slightly different looking material but this gold stuff was the only affordable option available. I will practice with it and maybe use it on the odd figure but still want to find something closer to what the Kerberos Panzer Jager uses which is thicker and a different loop look. for now though I am happy with my low budget option since it is fictional anyway.

yeah, in hand it looks ok from distance, even up close it isn't bad. for 20-30 pennies worth of fabric it is pretty good imo, but not what I was exactly looking for. eventually I will stumble upon the exact fabric I want and by then hopefully will have patterns and sewing skills ready for it fingers crossed.

The shiny gold effect does make me want to make a medieval Iron Man knight. Might look good with red armour over gold chainmail.

That looks pretty cool. It could pass for Frodo's Mithril shirt for sure.

I actually ordered that from Mood Fabric...$40 plus shipping for a yard of it and it shows up like this...

Haven't tried to do anything with it yet. If a fabric place can't cut it without it unraveling, I'm sure to make a HUGE mess out of it...

I just realized the first picture in this thread, I think it's spray painted tulle and I think it looks pretty sweet! Super cheap solution and easy to sew!

At the risk of being pedantic, there is no such thing as chain mail. The word is a modern invention and is inaccurate because the metal rings do not form a chain. Instead, each ring interconnects with several others that are adjacent, above, below and alongside. Ring mail is the more correct usage.

I am not the mail police (shame, I would love to wear that uniform!) and I will not complain if people want to use the term "chain mail", but I thought I would mention it. Smile

"Mail" is the correct term. Chain mail and ring mail are both pleonasms.

A "mail police" uniform sounds very cool. Where can I get one? Smile

Thanks for the correction.

Maybe a superhero called "Mister Mail" could clean up in neoplasmic space! Smile

Loving the geekdom here! I go to a language class on Saturday mornings and it's full of other ladies, and one engineer male. When I make technical comments/jokes, not only is he the only one "getting it" but I always see a sparkle in his eyes! Thank goodness we have at least one in the class, LOL.

I apologise for my use of the incorrect term, I shall go to the naughty corner now lol. :p

Heh. I use "chainmail" when talking to regular people. Only when talking to fellow researchers or writing a paper do I use "mail".

Only if you are writing in Old French. Modern French uses the plural, mailles.

I am loving all this pedantry but I am actually too clueless on the subject to get another one in so I shall hand the victory to you good sir. I shall accept defeat and retreat in my metal loop armour like brave Sir Robin. :p
