That should read "new posts", not "news posts", but it seems I can't edit either with 2img blocked.

Asta, I will try to look into it, but it is unlikely I will turn up anything concrete. This could have something to do with any combination of Forumotion updates and/or browser updates and/or anti-virus updates. I have not seen a problem with the icons themselves on my browser (Firefox). There are phishing or popup block warnings (something apparently fairly common on such sites), which is why it is good to have a good anti-virus or extensions uBlock Origin -- again, all this might depend on each individual user's platform and browser, and some of this is picking up innocent stuff too.

I'm on Chrome, but it could be a false positive from Avast.

It only began yesterday.

At the moment the icons are invisible due to me setting the block, but I managed to get to this page from Notifications by clicking the blank space where the icon should be.

It didn't work for 'Reply' though. As with 'Edit' it's completely missing as the mouse arrow doesn't turn to a hand anywhere in the post.

I Googled 2img . net. It's described as Traffic Ranking & Marketing Analytics. There were some reports of it being identified as a Trojan.

Just found some news on this from another Forumotion page:

https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=https://forum.forumactif.com/c5-entraide-support&prev=search&pto=aue

Seems like it has been identified as a false positive.

Hello everyone,

Our staff has already received the response from AVAST saying that their specialists have re-checked and that their detection has been disabled.
I quote, in quick translation from English:

The website is now marked as clean in the Avast virus database. This change should be instantaneous, but it can take up to 24 hours in some cases. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

I've turned 2img back on in uMatrix and the site is looking fine again!

Smile

Asta, thanks for the new information. I can see this element in the list of things my ad/pop-up blocker blocks, but it does not not seem to have any effect on the visibility and functionality of features. It sounds to me like you were not seeing even the various functional "buttons," which would indeed get in the way. A long time ago I tried out Chrome for some reason -- forget whether it was with this site or another -- and had some scary potentially phishing things pop up, so I stopped using it. I've had no such problems with Firefox (admittedly, I have these protective extensions loaded and activated) or with Microsoft Edge. It may be that without additional configuration or extensions Chrome is a little more susceptible? But there are really too many variables for me to speculate, and I'm not much of a tech person. As you found out in this instance, some of the "suspect" elements are not dangerous. Anyway, glad it was a false alarm.

It was Avast that was blocking it initially, but only partially so. It was deactivating the functional buttons visually, so the image was broken and replaced with text describing their function (which made reading thread titles difficult).

Every time I refreshed the forum an Avast warning popped up to say 2img was infected with URL: Phishing.

Turning 2img red in uMatrix put a stop to the warnings. With every refresh the broken icons with text loaded briefly then disappeared, becoming either invisible or non-existent.

As it turned out 2img is a pretty important part of the forum, so glad it was a false positive in the end.

According to the forum where I found the news, AVG had also been falsely detecting it:

Help needed with forum tech - Page 8 Avg_bl10

It's the first time anything like that has happened here, as the forum has been very stable and safe. The only thing uMatrix, uBlock Origin and Malwarebytes Browser Guard block routinely is Googletagmanager.

Thanks, Asta. Yes, I can see Googletagmanager blocked on my browser too, but also some others. I have on occasion -- and not on this site -- seen other innocent elements tagged as potentially malicious, stopping a page from loading (often this has to do with updated certificates or not).

Reposting this question in the hope that it will be seen this time:

Has there ever been consideration of creating a Top Level category for Photo Stories? As it is, the many stories here on the forum, including Gubernator's, The PhotogBlog's, blackpool's, AlKelAstra91's, BamComix's, ReverendSpooky's, and all the other photo-story creator's projects all quickly get buried in the General Talk category.

There is a separate Top Level category for Sixth Scale Videos that only has 17 total topics and 89 total posts. I would find a Top Level category for Sixth Scale Stories much more useful and interesting than one for videos. It would be much easier to keep up with The House of Seasons or The Astraverse or the shenanigans of the Maul Rats if the forum offered a Top Level photo-story category.

Any chance this could happen?

Thanx!

That could be a lot of fun! I know we have a few stories to post and share!

Prompted by these suggestions, after further discussion among moderators, we have created a separate Photo Stories section, accessible directly from the Home page.

https://onesixthfigures.forumotion.com/f9-photo-stories

Members can post their photo stories there if they wish. If you wish to transfer your photo stories already posted elsewhere, please make a list of all relevant ones, with URL addresses, and send a private message to me to arrange for the transfers.

Dont mind me this is a pixel-peeping freak testing stuff for bigger image posting

In my experience (and admittedly I have a relatively slow connection), the site is a little clunky, and I would encourage you to not overload the pages of your post with overly large or far too many photos or gifs.  They would probably work, but might take a long time to load, depending on what is on the page.

I face the same thing when I test it, though I can post higher quality photos, the forum is getting more slower when I load it...I am still trying to reach the both world, but so far Flickr and Imgur is better for now because they still require no effort and money to register it, I am now literally able to do at least 10000 images, if I am in control of my mind to not overdo pictures afro lol!

However servimg will not be my main host anyway because their way to compress pictures is too over for my taste, my pics eventually lose 90% of the details, but for simple or leisure post I'm still using servimg because it is so easy to read for others

Well, Forumotion and servimg (which is actually an extension of Forumotion) have limits on the total number of images one can store or post, so another reason to be selective. We are hopefully very far (as a forum), but Stryker2011, who did the terrific but thankless job of posting the vast majority of New Product Announcements using his own account, now can't save more images in his own servimg account, so we had to create a new moderator account for any of us to use for these purposes, and he had to make himself a new account for his own images.
I have changed the page settings to only show 20 posts on one page, so, depending on what else has been posted in the same topic/thread, that ought to cut down at least a little on the amount of data that needs to load and on the resulting wait time. In theory...
But even so, I hope forum members keep these things in mind.

Some of your Imgur and Flickr pics didn’t load for me, lawlaw91. Might be my operating system, or my device (iPad), or my browser (Safari), or it could be the limitations of forumotion. Just putting that out there.

can't speak for all Mark, but I use flickr to upload everywhere. I think it may be your system, as all my pics work here and on ammo (also forumotion).

I see three different photos in post 186, the first two twice (for a total of five). There is some "loose" formatting notation that shows, but the images display.

Forumotion was down entirely for a couple of hours yesterday, which took the OSF site offline and two other forums I follow, including one hosted on Forumactif, which is apparently an affiliated hosting service.

Yes, I thought I noticed something being off at one time, and figured it was a Forumotion-wide issue. That has happened on occasion in the past but is luckily quickly fixed.

Forumotion is still glitching. Forumotion was entirely down again when I checked today, shortly after 11:30am West Coast US time. Ten minutes later it was back, and sites like OSF, which are hosted directly on forumotion.com, were back online.

Sites not hosted directly at forumotion.com -- The Dal House forum on forumactif.org and AMMO at forumotion.co.uk -- are as of yet not responding.

I took a look. Perhaps you just stuck too many photos in a single post. Or, since I experimented limiting the images to a much smaller number but still got the same result, there is something different on imgur's end that prompts this response from Forumotion. I hope this is fixed soon. So far I'm unable to find anything addressing this.
PS The images in the earlier posts are displaying fine.
Edit: Strange, the photos display both in preview mode (which is of no help to regular members except the author) and in the newest photo gallery at the bottom of the main forum page.
Edit: Imgur has a certain limit on image requests, and maybe having so many all in one place triggered it. But I don't know where exactly the problem lies.

I wonder if he has a paid account or a free account at Imgur? Some hosts place limits on various services for free accounts.

No, wait... I figured it out:

Help needed with forum tech - Page 8 8YG5hKs

The error is in the way the code is typed.

The initial image tag has somehow become separated from the URL which still includes the closing image tag.

See how the [ img ] is printing in black, but the URL and closing tag are showing as blue?

That won't work.

Copy the entire string:
Code:
 [img]https://i.imgur.com/8YG5hKs.png[/img]
and paste it back in as one piece. It should work.

With a sufficiently generous salary offer, forum Admin might tempt me to come onboard as a technical consultant.  Wink
