Done more skin grafting around the elbows (not finished yet) and the feet which are now done including being filled with hot glue. Removed the head so I can access it better to install some LEDs for his eyes that will involve dremelling and wiring etc.. plus painting it separately from the body with the rubber paint. Got loads of spikes/horns to cut off parts and apply to him too.

Such a complex build. I just hope you remember where everything goes. And that the cats don't abscond with your parts.

As I like both, Ctlhulhu and LotR I'm watching this project with interest.

Well I make it up as I go so nothing to remember! LOL, the kitten loves running off with little rubber pieces I need to build his skin!

Lots of slow, reputative work done, removing the tiny spikes and prepping them all took quite a bit of work with a hacksaw and a scalpel, some you can barely see so holding them in my fingers while trimming them with a scalpel was fun!
The other part (the belly of the beast, an Anthrax song reference, since it was going through my head at the time) was gutting the octopus head/body, it's far easier with a real life (albeit very slippery and strong fighting for its life) octopus since it's just one snip under the hood and all the internal organs and brains come out in one go! This however was a battle with a dremmel cutting disk through steel and tough plastic, noxious fumes from heated super glue and button cell batteries (my bad, forgot to check DOH). Then the electronics, pure masochism!! LEDs died, then replaced, then got lost and chasing solder joints like my kitten chases its tail... fitting that switch was interesting too but should work well with a big spike on it to conceal it and match the other two large backward facing spikes. Got the 'head finns' to install next. I made mounts for his big wings and ordered the rather pricey primer and black rubber spray paint cans.

Oh, wow! The cutting of all those spikes sounds absolutely daunting. The light up eyes is fantastic. This guy is going to be such an impressive beast.

I agree. Nice progress, and the lit-up eyes photo is an enticing glimpse into what he will look like in all his glory.

Thank you. Yes it does now I look at it again lol, a bit like my profile pic is of a failing spray can on the skull    I just think it looks quite unique and 'arty'.

Added loads of 'body spikes/horns' each attached with 3 types of glue so hopefully the won't come off. Tail and crotch area finished (I think), big wings mounted (need support screws through the base to the body still), pretty much all the excess hot glue cut back with a scalpel on the head; you can see a sort of 'before look' on the body as that hasn't had it done yet as I'm planning on adding more spikes to the back of the arms and legs etc.. Added fins and horns to the head, experimented with which ones to use for the on/off button for the lights and settled on a smaller horn as the large one was OTT IMO.

Alex, this is going to be one fearsome beast for sure, with all of them spikes. And it will make up for size (compared with the piece of art you showed) with the complexity of the design. Using a spike for the light switch is pure brilliance!

Don't you just wish someone would supply you with unending parts and pay you to do this kind of thing? With no deadlines or anything. Just creating what you want. lol

Canon says (from H P Lovecraft himself) he can change size from a man to continent, so that has me covered as 1/6! LOL. Interestingly if you look at the humans in the pic they appear to be Super Heros from the modern era, I did read somewhere that there was a crossover with Marvel
at some point so this painting must bee related o that.

I did try this as commercial venture at some point and even had a Saudi Prince (there are a lot of them I know) wanting to commission me to make 1/6 versions of his royal bodyguards! But just like being a motorcycle mechanic, when your hobby becomes your job you no longer enjoy it and don't even want to talk about it after you 'clock off' unless it's bitching about your clients or boss lol! So it's actually a bit of a lose/lose situation most of the time since you still have the pressures of a job but no longer a hobby to relax with but then again I'm a depressing git who lacks any endorphins...

Yup even more spikes now!! Does Ovy need a giant crab? Interesting, any idea why? I think a large real one would be better for photography and then he can eat it, clean it and stuff it for any diorama needed!

The last of the spikes attached and all the Hot Glue now trimmed back with a scalpel so ready for paint if it ever arrives as the they are all on strike right now and around the X-mass period.































HEAD JUST BALANCED IN PLACE FOR NOW AS NEEDS TO BE PAINTED INDEPENDENTLY.

Paint arrived but I think I need to order more black not the cheapest stuff in the world at £15 for 400ml. Seems to do what it says on the tin, not sure how durable it is going to be but the primer turned out to be clear so that could possibly double as a top protective coat. Stinks so use a spray booth!
