Yup even more spikes now!! Does Ovy need a giant crab? Interesting, any idea why? I think a large real one would be better for photography and then he can eat it, clean it and stuff it for any diorama needed!

The last of the spikes attached and all the Hot Glue now trimmed back with a scalpel so ready for paint if it ever arrives as the they are all on strike right now and around the X-mass period.

Paint arrived but I think I need to order more black not the cheapest stuff in the world at £15 for 400ml. Seems to do what it says on the tin, not sure how durable it is going to be but the primer turned out to be clear so that could possibly double as a top protective coat. Stinks so use a spray booth!













It dries matte.

Looks very promising. The uniform color (which will be changed to something more variable, I'm sure) is giving the cobbled-together body much needed unity.

Plasti-Dip. Inspired choice. I remember someone on the Old Site used it to dip a TBL body in to create a very believable “latex” catsuit.

That looks great already! Plasti Dip. Interesting. Oh the possibilities... Looking forward to seeing it dry!

Yup! Normally the primer does that but since this has clear primer...not so much! LOL.

Not sure how that would cover the 'lady bits' on the more recent phicen bodies!

You just got me thinking, could work great for seamless body colour changes like SW lady aliens for example that have always been a thorn in the side to build.

Pics below if it dried, not very good pics with lousy lighting and background since he's all black and I still haven't managed to get his head back on (not really tried TBH, distracted by an interim set of builds) but he does look a lot like my 1/4 scale Geiger Alien at the moment!

That has to bone of the ugliest figures I have ever seen, great job. I like how you added so much nasty stuff, does he smell like a 100 opened graves too?

That spray hopefully yields great results. The pictures of the figures lying there look like some alien vivisection.

About the Saudi prince, do you think he contacted you himself or was it a middleman? I read an article once about rich pro soccer players having an agency working around the clock to fulfill their needs in mere minutes. Like one wanted 10 new Playatstions. One agent compared the players to teenagers with an infinite amount of money to spend.

Btw, I personally was never interested in all those fan fiction stories continuing Lovecraft's stories, overexplaining and adding all those characters can destroy that mysterious mythical insanity of the originals I read back in the day in the 20s. They don't make 'em like they used to.



Oh and you should pay attention, if you don't look he might start fights with those giant Japanese robot figures to campy music.

I finally figured out how to see your new photos -- taking way too long to load for me (so I clicked on Edit for your post and it showed me the whole thing -- don't worry, didn't edit anything).
He's just pure awesome (in the original meaning of the word too).

He is INCREDIBLE!!! Blown away. I'm amazed at the vision you have to get something like this done. True artistry.

He looks like I would imagine he would look, chaotic. Such an amazing figure and it's not even finished yet.

Paint stinks a bit before it dries but that's about it lol. The Prince used a middleman. Never read anything by H P Lovecraft or any fan fiction of later periods just love the designs, read Edger Alan Poe though. Those Gundam Kits wouldn't stand a chance, very fragile, he'd only need to fall on them! The gold and red transformers are very tough with a lot of metal, so who knows...

Still waiting on that second can of black rubber paint, needs thicker coats and a sealant as it rubs off otherwise (they claim it can stay on your car wheels for years...but needs at least four coats... ). I reattached the head more securely this time and have nearly finished making skin for his neck to cover the joints, out of scraps of rubber that are offcuts from the build as that's all I have with the correct textures.

At this stage it almost looks like you are handling an Alien.

Got more black Plasti Dip delivered at last (bloody strikes and an octogenarian postman..bless him but he's super slow..really needs to retire!) so gave it another coat of PD primer then PD black, then more PD primer, then more PD black and so on a bit like a chocolate sponge cake that will in theory, crate a better bond between layers (rubber/glue/rubber/glue/rubber etc..) then a final coat of black acrylic spray paint to act as a harder protective shield, like icing on the chocolate sponge cake... But hopefully won't crack, instead help prevent the rubber being rubbed off.
I then got out my 'high volume' airbrush (sort of a mini spray gun) to evenly 'shower' the figure in my ancient concoction of 'weathering gunk' I've had in a bucket for years now made from water, inks, mud, sand, acrylic paints etc.. I decided to use the airbrush this time as previous uses of my 'gunk' applied by dipping a figure etc.. in it or using a large brush to lather it, resulted in out of scale drips drying all over the figures. Next I'll do some more vibrant greens and make use of the green glow in the dark paint I still have from the KOTD build I did for my LOTR collection (that had an avalanche recently... ).

OH YEAH, HAD TO CHANGE MY SPRAY BOOTH CONFIGURATION TO PAINT THIS GUY WITH MINIMAL CONTACT POINTS FOR WET PAINT...THAT WAS FUN..

Aaaah!!! He looks magnificent!! And while the pure black was stunning by itself, the gunk looks fantastic and of course helps lift off some of the details, which need to be seen.

Cheers Diana! This is just a 'base coat' he'll be much livelier with some eerie 'St. Elmo's fire' like green accenting some sponged on more reptilian greens I plan to add, as well as some bone colour to the tusks/spikes, then the special glow in the dark green.

Great project. I really wish i owned an airbrush.
When ever i come close to having the funds sorted, i end up buying a new figure instead. I need to break the habit.

Oh, Lovecraft only wrote this one 1928 short story where he introduced Cthulhu, can recommend it to anyone. All of his work is open source by now.

I hope the avalanche you refer to was not caused by one of your furry dependents. Although I guess an avalanche is an avalanche, no matter what caused it.

Marvelous work with the additional PD and gunk. It has both unity and detail, I'd stay away from anything too drastically bright in the further details you want to paint. Except maybe the eyes. What are you thinking about them? Fiery yellow or glossy black?

I just hope the figure would still have some articulation after all those layers.

Thanks! Just start with a cheap one like the one I used now, you won't need a double action one until you get better anyway, compressors are cheap now a days too, get a little pump, you don't need a pressurised container/reservoir as you control the pressure with the brush's button.

Thanks! Still has plenty of articulation, the eyes are lit up orange by LEDs.

Well I airbrushed some green ink and paint the coated it with the clear primer to stop it wiping off but annoyingly the primer seems to have absorbed it all! Bummer but it was just a base coat and I'm now applying the more important paint by hand with a sponge slowly as he's a big bugger!

I read the story at the link Ovy provided and agree, it was pretty great, realizing that a number of science fiction tropes familiar from movies might go back to it (unless it, too, goes back to others). Alex, your Cthulhu is as beautiful as a monster of this type could possibly be, and your new paintwork really helps bring out the gory details. It also looks leaner and meaner, so we better watch out!

He's looking fantastic the green really made the details pop out and the weathering is perfect. Your gunk bucket did the trick.
