Thanks and agreed, although I need to be careful of the black I used in the eyes, not sure it will survive gloss.

So used a hard brush instead of a sponge for mottling this time and it works much better on a smaller area.
They eyes were more complex than I'd remembered needing swirls of metallic over the metallic red, I used used green and orange. Not crazy about the black but unless you get a magnifying glass out it looks fine.

Again, after seeing the pics on a large display the black slits are annoying me!

I'll use a magnifying glass and 'interrupt' the black a bit making it narrower and more zig zag like with the other colours covering it a bit. It's always something! lol scratch bounce

Redid the eyes (sound familiar? Laughing ) just need to add some pink/purple around them, to what we might think of as eyelids, these look more like sphincters! lol

I think they turned out great and using those metallic markers was a very good idea. I hope they take gloss without running, or maybe you don't need it.

Thanks! Yeah I'm worried about clear on the eyes, for the black only but if it smudges the eyes are ruined..
Done the sphincter bits, a little bright, might tone them down when they dry. Decided to paint the 'brain' black and just have it as part of his head dress that I also painted black, got a bit carried away with the grinding wheel on the plastic oops.. my need to remake it from scratch or just patch it up a bit..

Yeah, looking good! I would maybe push the glossiness of the eyes a bit more. They appear a bit flat still.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you incorporate that red suitcase into the outfit!

Just done that, doesn't seem to have smudged the eyes but still drying, added matte clear to the skin.
Not sure if the suitcase material will end up being used in this particular build, it's a bit bright.

Cheers! The Lego socket on one of the feet just cracked... blue tack I guess for a quick fix. I stupidly cut the hem just too short to cover the feet but I add a hem which will fix that. He still needs his outer robe which I can make longer too.

I just remembered why I cut his hem a bit too short, the 'edging' or 'border' ran out/wasn't long enough and I need to use that to insert wire and make those cuttlefish like frills of his under robe. I do have more of that border material though on another section of the shirt I cut up (again from a neighbour's bag of clothes).

Finished the 'middle' robe, basically a bunch of patchwork sewing to extend it and get the border extensions in the right place too. I've run wire through the border hems to create that cuttlefish look of wavy folds or pleats, added a fold to the back as I saw one version of his robe doing this and it hides the stitches. Extended his inner robe to cover his feet too, needs sone red stripes to be screen accurate. His bib and medallion need to be made but will do his outer robe first using knitted material that looks like the texture it is made of on screen, a bit large but beggars can't be choosers.

GubernatorFan wrote:Nice. But isn't it the outer robe of the reference images?

Yet the reference pics are of a custom figure that I don't think is accurate but it just gave me an idea.

shovelchop81

shovelchop81
I've been searching the net trying to get a better understanding of his outer robes, are those sleeves or a caplet of some sort? If they're sleeves they don't have a top to them, sort of like some medieval clothing, I chose a sort of half sleeve half caplet look in the end. Then there were the 'folds' or more like piping in my case due to the nature of the material it's too thick to drape naturally in a 1/6 fashion, they took forever (okay a day or so) to sew and no one will ever see them! Neutral Then lots more sewing to attach the sleeve things and connect the outer robe to the inner robe so the cuttlefish folds always show. I'll probably trim off all that excess 1/1 scale hem around the bottom of the robe and the sleeve things.

Reference of sleeve/capelet confusion.

Cheers guys! Getting there although today was a step backwards as a correction to going forwards.

I decided the folds facing the wrong way bugged me enough to undo all the sewing work I'd done over the last couple of days, I cut all the stitching connecting the outer and middle robes. I still wasn't happy with the folds/pleats even the correct way around so restitched all of those with a better matching thread colour and tightened them too. I cut off all the 1/1 sized hems/borders, and after flipping everything around sewed it all back together again!Laughing Won't look like much to you but it's a big difference to me. Cool
