These two little guys showed up this morning in the mail. Now they wait for John Wick to arrive.

Nice pooches, Mark. They reminded me that I recently received what I think was Mr. Z's first ever sixth-scale dog. Took him out to explore the yard when the sun was out the other day... Can you guess why I named him Osiris?

Lol... no, Osiris was the green-skinned god of the netherworld and resurrecting vegetation. It reminded me of Isis from Downton Abbey, but when it arrived it was very clearly a male dog, so I named if after Isis' husband Osiris.

Gubernator, your sunny photos and figure's shorts and sandals attire almost makes me forget how cold my hands are while I type this.

Nice puppies, Reverend, I hope they are as delightful when you get them as they appear in the photos. As for the weather, we got lucky... it's been mostly sunny but relatively cool in this part of California, but that day it got pretty warm in the sun. Besides, our figures wouldn't really have known the difference.

I liked the Dowager, she was quick and sly with those quips, going through Midsomer Murders, Father Brown (Bunty), and Death in Paradise.

It rained at 1530HR in SoCal, I only had sun during the early morning, but I was stuck in the work office. I got Wonder Women, I couldn't decide on which version, so I got both and BVS Wonder Woman head separate.

I had Arkhalla parts, but I cleaned the hobby/office room and I can't locate them, plus I forgot which parts I bought. I found most of it, but I am not sure if I bought her swords. I had to buy the head again because I messed up when removing the blood on the side of the mouth with acetone. It took the flat paint off from the surrounding area and the area exposed a glossy plastic.

My wallet has been taking a beating the last couple of months. This guy just showed up today from Asmus:



It'll be awhile before I'll be able to put him together, but from my cursory examination everything looks good.

Agreed. I think they make the best animals overall. When it comes to 1/6 horses, they can't be beat -- it's probably why you see so many of those historical figures on horseback working in conjunction with them.

Pretty close. I tend to agree with most that he looks overall better with the helmet on, but I actually want to see his face, and with a little futzing to the hair, it's not bad. Here are some photos I took this morning to satisfy your interest (I hope); minimal futzing to the hair (and luckily, they already pulled it back into his top-knot ponytail).

It may not look as amazing as the promo pics , but then nothing ever does. I think just making sure his hair frames his face a bit seems to help. Overall, looks pretty good!

The face looks good. I like the expressiveness. A bit of defiance!

I had not seriously considered Asmus LotR figures as I find their releases have nice clothing and gear but are are super hit or miss when it comes to likeness, and from the pics I was disappointed with the sculpted hair on Aragorn (my fave <3 ), and was not overly keen on the 'real hair' version of him either. But I'm liking the rooted hair look on this Eomer!!

Yeah, Asmus wasn't all that great in the beginning. But they seem to get better with each release. I have a feeling they might revisit Aragorn (again -- for the 4th time); they did a second, reworked Aragorn sculpt that had two options, rooted or sculpted, but honestly, I still didn't care for it. I have the ACI Aragorn, and though I haven't futzed the hair yet, TankGirlFuzzy did, and she made it look fantastic (easily the best Aragorn out there) -- for some reason Asmus always kind of makes him look like a crack addict, and though he was fairly grizzled in those movies, Viggo was a pretty handsome guy at the time. Legolas could have been stellar had it had rooted hair. I kind of hope they revisit him, as they've been talking about redoing Gandalf the Grey (to make him look more like Ian from LOTR rather than older Ian from The Hobbit). They've made adjustments (however slight) to their Arwen sculpt, and it looks much better (still not perfect), but better (I guess flawlessly beautiful women must be really hard for some of these companies to get right). If you haven't seen their Gimli, he's amazing; and though they still have difficulty with the hair line, he has to be one of the best rooted hair/beard figures I've ever seen. Asmus has also been very good about offering Expansion Packs for figures (though it would be nice if they got them right the first time -- which I think they did with Boromir, Gimli, Thorin, Thranduil & Eomer) after people complained about the head sculpts of all the Hobbits; granted you have to pay for those expansion packs, but they've been reasonably priced, and are a marked improvement over the original sculpt. Their Mouth of Sauron is absolutely amazing, and one of the coolest figures in my collection. I even bought the Tauriel figure -- though I modified her a bit to just be some random Elf Archer -- since I didn't really like the Hobbit movies much, and the head sculpt, and her breast-plate, could have been better. Not trying to talk you into getting any of those, but they are some of the coolest figures out there, by a company that takes an active interest in customer/fan reviews and support -- not many companies are willing to listen, or interact, with us, and the fact that they do is one of the reasons I fully support them.

And you are right, from the pics I have seen, they do seem to be improving quite a bit. Admittedly I tuned out of that whole merch franchise in general for several years, as, like you, I was not keen on the Hobbit films (I never even saw the last one, and can barely remember what I did manage not to snore or cringe through of the others). I am however a massive Tolkien fan (not just LotR, but everything, especially the First Age) and while I have my share of Tolkien books, art, even some LotR swords , etc., I was never all that into the action figures side of collecting for it. I think my early impressions of some of the statues and other collectibles was not very good, and I kinda just dismissed it all. But the more recent Asmus figures have DEFINITELY gotten my attention. : )

It would be AMAZING if they did another Aragorn. If they could get both the hair and the likeness right it would be...*heart eyes*

I haven't made a ton of 'major' purchases lately, as a difficult house move combined with the holiday season ended up being quite rough on the finances. Rather, for months now I've been concentrating mainly on gathering various parts, accessories, materials, and other arts and crafts supplies. I used to focus much more on collecting actual figures, but that was when I was just collecting smaller 3.75" scale stuff. Now that I'm focusing so much on 1/6 scale, it's a bit difficult for me to justify constantly purchasing new/boxed/complete figures. :/

That said, since the holidays I *have* made a couple of purchases -- some practical, some indulgent -- that I consider significant enough to mention here:

1) the s25b tbleague body:



Not an actual figure, but a purchase that has proven to be a HUGE breakthrough for me in terms of opening up possibilities for several of my WIP projects. I had been vacillating over getting one of these 'shorter' bodies for months, and honestly wish I had taken a chance on them so sooner, as it would have saved me a lot of stress. It may not be 100% perfect in terms of being an exact match for certain characters, but just having a seamless body in a more petite stature is SO helpful. As it is now, I'm hoping to use it for not just one but several figures that I'd been struggling with for a while.

2) ThreeZero 1/6 Daryl Dixon:





A figure that's been on my wishlist for a while, and one that I finally caved in recently and 'gifted' to myself. :p I was a tad nervous as this was my first ever non-Star Wars 1/6 scale figure, so I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of overall quality. But as I mentioned on the review thread, despite the flaws that have already been noted by others, I absolutely adore him and could not be happier with him.

Ok, technically not a purchase, but a preorder. My undying love for Sir Chris as well as for the entire Prequels/Clone Wars/Twilight of the Republic era makes this one unmissable for me. Not only that, but he will be an extremely versatile figure for my collection, as I will be able to display him with both my 'official' Hot Toys figures as well as with several of my (eventual) Clone Wars customs. Some of my fave lightsaber duels from that period are the Anakin vs. Dooku duels (the two from the Prequel films, but also the various encounters between them throughout the Clone Wars animated series) so I can't freaking wait.

Very cool purchase on Christopher Lee. Hopefully when you get him, you’ll share your thoughts. I’d be interested to see how the head sculpt turns out.

My Sideshow Scout Trooper 2.0 showed up yesterday. Still waiting on the Speeder Bike from Sideshow to get mailed.

Pretty much finished my female figure. Just need her weapons to arrive, and I need to decide if I want to make a back skirt to her outfit or not.
