MarkEl wrote:@PitViper, there is a smiliar one for sale on eBay from Hong Kong.  It looks potentially like a recast because it's missing the slight widow's peak and the beard is shaped differently among other things.  I thought I'd pass it along anyway.  Good luck on your search.  Finding a grail head sculpt can be a long lasting challenge.  I know the feeling.

Hey MarkEl! Thanks for the intel bud.  It looks like I'll have to pay top dollar for what the seller claims is an original one.  $80 is steep!  That's why I was hoping for a recast.  At any rate, I've added the auction to my Watched list, we'll see...

Hey Stryker, would either of these do the job for what you're looking for?  Or close enough to work as a base, with a bit of modding?  I was digging through parts bins, and came across them.  Excuse the crappy pictures.  It was late and I just shot them on my phone with the 1st female figures I could grab. Just a couple different options to the one DFC posted.

After getting some more customizing ideas into my head, I am looking for the following boxed set or at least head:

Virtual Toys (VTS) or DAM (it is listed as both) Dark Soldier VTS-VM007.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I'm going to throw this out there, in the hopes someone even has some ideas or suggestions.  I've been wanting to find a 1/6 classic car to customize.  The ideal would be like a 57 Chevy, but if anyone wants to suggest any other big boats from that era, I'm down.  I picked up the Barbie one in hopes of making it work, but at around 2/3 the size it would need to be, it just looks far too tiny with a figure. As far as I know New Bright never did anything classic.

Probably close to 15-20 years ago, I had seen something at Love Saves the Day, a vintage store (I can't remember if it was their NYC or New Hope, PA location).  It must have been close to 3 feet long, and it was remote control.  Not radio controlled, but the remote was actually connected with a long cord.  It was around $200, and I was a broke college kid who could not afford to just drop that money at the time.  But I've never seen anything similar since, and have no idea who even made it, to help my search.

I'm admittedly far from being a car guy (so please be gentle calling me out on my lack of car knowledge!), but have always loved the look of those big retro cars.  So it doesn't have to be the 57 Chevy, but fins, bullet tail lights, and that big grill in the front are all pluses.

This one is kinda my white whale.  Having never found anything remotely similar, I kick myself for missing out on the one from way back.  Hell, it might not even look as good as I remember.  But if anyone has any suggestions, links, things they've seen, brands I should search for, they'd be really appreciated.

For years CM Toys' "big beard" PMC head has been one of my Holy Grails. I couldn't buy one when they first sold and have scoured e-retailers & eBay forever trying to find one.

At this point I'm convinced finding an original one will be impossible, but it may be possible to locate a recast.  Now I realize the whole issue of recasting can be upsetting for many members of the board because of the way recasters are looked upon - some in the hobby think of them as people who steal what can be construed as proprietary/copyrighted material that they then copy and sell for profit.  Personally, I think that may be true if you recast a head made by a 1:6 customizer/artist who makes an original head, but I don't see it as such if you're copying a commercially made head that has not been copyrighted by the company that made it.  A fine distinction I know, but one nonetheless.

Though I personally haven't bought from recasters in the past, I don't think there's any other option for this head now.  So if you know of any for sale out there or you have one for sale/trade LMK.

Thanks for looking.

I was finally able to locate one at a decent price on eBay. Seller claimed it was an original, though that may not be entirely accurate. Bought it over the weekend, arriving from China early to mid-June. Will keep you all posted.

Now, can anyone suggest a body that I could put this head on without modifications? Please advise.

Regarding the classic car question, I think Moonbase Alpha Male is one who has had experience doing that (or something close to it).

At that price I wouldn't want to order the body without knowing for sure because I don't have any other heads that could fit it, and it will then sit in my spare box... Just a matter of buying wisely.

Thanks guys. Yeah Pontiacivan, I really appreciate you keeping an eye out for me. I was really curious if anyone had even seen anything out there, even similar. I know We have a few RC Car hobbiests here too, and while I know 1/6 isn't really the most common scale, I figured maybe someone more tuned in to that world might have a suggestion or 2. I'm definitely willing to put some work in, so if there's even a good starting point, I'm interested. I'm just nowhere near up to the skill level it'd take to start from scratch.

I had hoped I had you covered, Rev. Many years ago (pre-kids) I built what I remembered to be a 1:6 scale Jaguar XKE. It was beautiful.

Alas, it sat upon a mantel in my older son's bedroom for years until one of his little buddies came over and decided it'd be fun to take it down and roll it around. The silly little dipstick dropped it and it fell to pieces. Nothing broken, per se, but it was trashed. I put it all in a box and stashed it.

Well, I thought I'd remembered where it was, but upon looking for it last weekend, it was not there. Then a little on-line research revealed my memory to be absolutely good for nothing as it was 1:8 instead of 1:6.

All that said, there was the Max Steele sports car which very much resembled a Porsche in the front, but went terribly sideways (design wise) down the sides and in the rear.

Please help me find... (continuously updated) - Page 4 Max-steel-mx48-turbo-sports-car-12_1_2dbcd76d1bbc6a9f282163f0b60f8d04

Of course, as with most Max Steele accessories and such, true scale is always suspect.

Don't forget about good old going-out-of-business sales at Toys IS Us. In years gone by, New Bright and a couple of other companies have done sixth scale cars and trucks. They have cheap RC systems in them, but they're easily taken out and replaced with real systems, or just left as static models. Someone did a Mercedes G55 some years ago and I actually saw one and walked on thinking, "I'll probably come back and get one." Now it's unobtainium.

Thanks Dadrab.  I really do appreciate the suggestion.  I do need to swing by Toys R Us again before they've gone away.  I always look when I'm there, but have yet to see anything like I'm looking for that works for 1/6.  New Bright seemed a great way to go, but don't think they've ever done anything like what I'm looking for either.  I know they did a Porsche a few years back, but that's it.  I'd take a broken RC car, and like you said, either swap out the guts or just keep it for display.

I definitely want something more along the lines of just a big 50s/60s boat.  That Jaguar is a cool car, but I want that big squared off shape that's so iconic, as opposed to the sleeker sports car look.  4 doors would be ideal.

I hate that you missed out on the Mercedes.  It's be a fun one to have too.

Just wanted you to know that there are a couple Barbie '57 Chevys on eBay that are under $60 shipped.
Not sure if the scale is good for you, or if you were set on an RC, but I have not seen any locally yet. Just giving some FYI.

This one is kinda my white whale.  Having never found anything remotely similar, I kick myself for missing out on the one from way back.  Hell, it might not even look as good as I remember.  But if anyone has any suggestions, links, things they've seen, brands I should search for, they'd be really appreciated.
Just wanted you to know that there are a couple Barbie '57 Chevys on eBay that are under $60 shipped.
Not sure if the scale is good for you, or if you were set on an RC, but I have not seen any locally yet. Just giving some FYI.

Oh man Pontiacivan, I really appreciate the heads up. Unfortunately, The Barbie 57 Chevy is way undersized. I actually picked one up a couple years back. I did the size conversion, and it's only about 2/3 of the size it should be. I even tried a few tricks to try to make it look less so, like lowering the seats, but no luck. It still just looked ridiculously under scale with a driver in it. But seriously, it means a ton to me that you're keeping an eye out. Thanks again.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT . . .

I own a few Barbie vehicles I purchased from the early to mid 2000s from TRU.

They're perfect for some of 1:6 female figures (i.e. CY GIRLs & CY GIRL Perfect Body figures).

Granted, the vehicles are a bit under scale. However, they overall suffice from my perspective.

I do keep track on some on eBay. If the price is right, I do want to eventually procure a Barbie Ferrari (MIB/NRFB).
