Portrayed by the talented Avery Brooks, Captain Benjamin Sisko is one of the most complex characters to come out of Star Trek. He is the first war-time Captain to lead a series and is more morally ambiguous than the other captains.

This 1:6-scale figure presents Captain Sisko from Season 6 in exquisite detail. Standing approximately 12 inches tall this is an all-new body designed by EXO-6. He wears the later “movie” uniform, each element of the outfit authentically reproduced. The original portrait sculpt of Brooks has an authentic, hand-painted likeness.

I will let the figures speak for themselves first...















Yes, I caved in and got a bunch of the parted-out parts from the ADD Toys King of Khalasar set, inspired by Jason Momoa's portrayal of Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. As you can see, the product looks like the prototype and does a very good job of capturing the subject. But there are various practical issues with it. To be perfectly honest, I'm not a fan of the whole Dothraki concept and ark, especially as realized on the show (I cannot speak for the original author's creation, which I have not read) -- the Mongols who inspired them were quite different in appearance, behavior, dress, and statecraft; like the other margins of the Game of Thrones world, these never seemed particularly compelling or interesting to me. But ADD Toys did make a good representation of the character and type based on the show. The likeness of the head sculpt is quite good, I think more faithful to its subject than ADD Toys' War Wolves were to Hugh Jackman as Logan. The transition from molded hair to "real hair" braid is well done. The head might be sitting just a little bit too high on the neck. The ADD Toys seamless body is very nicely and realistically sculpted, a great visual alternative to what TBLeague, Jiaou Doll, and now LDDoll have made. As a bonus, it is also more detailed in its paint application, with both war paint stripes and painted-on hair -- though only for the parts that you see exposed, which is practical but feels like cheating to me. I knew of this limitation, and I was already very disappointed by the practical limitations (when it comes to articulation and poseability) of these bodies. I was hoping against hope that they would improve and stupidly gave them another try. I knew I should have resisted and just customized a proper TBLeague seamless body instead -- the ADD Toys body, for all of its more detailed (in part!) appearance, is still a wobbly, rickety mess to deal with (there is no complete underlying metal skeleton to ensure smooth and precise articulation). It might also be a little on the slender side for the character's appearance. I do not enjoy criticizing a product too harshly, but this is their second time, and there is no improvement. I hope I have learned my lesson this time.

Why is this not a proper review? Because I did not purchase the complete set (given how many parts I did purchase, I might as well have done so). What you see is reconstituted with the actual parted-out parts (but the hands are just random bendy hands of the right color). The outfit is pretty nicely done, but the one-piece boots are unhelpful for balance and articulation, and again the whole body's ability to balance and pose is severely restricted (it cannot even sit properly). Most collectors who do not keep their figures in their original packaging or other containers are likely to display them in some sort of museum pose. This might be ok for this purpose (just don't expect it to keep its balance forever), but I expect better from an action figure. The irony is that more people went for the parted-out body than for the parted-out head; and yet the head is infinitely better than the body.

Introduction
The Amazon Prime series The Boys has been an unexpected hit, and a bit of an alternative to blockbuster superhero movies we have gotten used to. Not entirely surprisingly, this has inspired the sixth scale rendition of some of its characters, starting with the leading protagonist Billie Butcher and leading antagonist Homelander. Soo Soo Toys, which has a tradition of bringing such characters to sixth scale and filling niches left by other companies, is making one of each, and other third party companies are following suit. Soo Soo's Mr Butcher (SST 025) showed up yesterday, and here is a quick review. I took up enough photos to have plenty left over for a bit of a photo story and tutorial... (HERE).



Packaging - 4/4 stars
Mr Butcher comes in a pretty standard shoebox style cardboard box, with graphic art of the character on the lid and sides. Inside there is a cover card with another graphic art portrayal of the character, a la Hot Toys. Below that one finds two plastic treys, each with its transparent lid. The upper one holds the figure, extra hands, baby figure, and two alternative heads (one for Billie Butcher, the other for the baby), as well as the three Compound V vials, two batteries, and a mini circuitboard (these go inside the alternative baby head -- there is a color printed sheet with basic instructions). The lower trey holds the action figure stand and the weapons. Everything is collector friendly, except perhaps securing the bottom trey and its lid closed together with no less than four pieces of tape. I generally prefer foam to plastic treys, but there is nothing to really complain about here.



Sculpting - 3.5/4 stars
There are several head sculpts at play here, although the focus would be on Billie Butcher's, and there are two of those. There is one head with a relatively neutral expression and another one with a sort of maniacal grin. Both are executed very well, and the more neutral-expression head is near perfect, although the grinning likeness is not quite as compelling. It is still recognizable, but I think it is wrong -- for that expression the eyes are likely to narrow, and the cheek space between them and the mouth bunch up and narrow too. If you have a light source behind the grinning head, you would see the light show through the slightly open mouth. The visible teeth are, for once, flawlessly sculpted, being a separate piece attached from the inside. The detail is very fine, though perhaps not quite Hot Toys fine (for example, in the hair strands). The baby's body, clothing, and two heads (one of them with removable night cap) are also excellently sculpted. So are the weapons and other accessories, including the interchangeable hands. The boots are a work of art. One area in which they miscalculated is the figure's height. Karl Urban is about 185 cm (6' 1") tall, which would translate to about 30.8 cm (12.12 in), but Soo Soo Toys' Mr Butcher stands only 29.5 cm (11.6 in) tall.



Paint - 4/4 stars
The paint job is clean and precise overall, with plenty of realistic detail on the areas that are supposed to be flesh, including the heads and hands. The eyes and scope lenses are appropriate glossy. The teeth are very nicely done, giving them a realistic look. There is very little in the way of weathering, except perhaps a little on the boots. Nevertheless, the painted accessories are given a slightly dull finish where appropriate, that does not make them look excessively plastic and cheap.



Articulation - 3.5/4 stars
The articulation is relatively good, especially given the somewhat bulkier and heftier character of the hard-plastic body. Because one is supposed to be able to display the figure with and without the long coat, they chose to go with single-jointed elbows. This limits elbow articulation to about 90 degrees, while still looking awkward (we have been spoiled by TBLeague and Jiaou, have we not?), so I am not certain this choice makes as much sense to me. The other joints are more or less consistent with what one would expect from high-end sixth-scale bodies today. There is even some articulation in the relatively soft-material-covered lower neck. But in places this is hampered by the outfit, especially if you have the long coat on the figure. As can be expected, the boots, although loosened and slightly pliable toward their tops, do somewhat limit the ankle articulation. Nevertheless, it is possible to take and hold relatively wide stances without support.



Accessories - 4/4 stars
Often enough third party sets skimp on accessories, providing little. This is not usually a fault of Soo Soo Toys, and once again they have provided a plethora of accessories. Apart from the additional pairs of interchangeable hands, making a total of four pairs (relaxed, fists, knife grip, and pistol grip), and the fairly elaborate action figure stand (with a The Boys logo and texture imitating a metal panel), there are a sniper rifle, another rifle, a cattle prod, an electric drill, a crowbar, and hammer. There are also additional clips for both rifles -- for a total of three of each kind, that can be attached at the appropriate place. Both rifles have some articulation (like movable scopes), one of them with an extendable stock, an attachable handle, and a removable silencer. There are also three Compound V vials. The baby is a whole additional accessory, which is unfortunately just that -- a little unarticulated figure, even if beautifully executed. It has two virtually identical heads that can be swapped (they plug in, there is no possibility of rotation). This is because one of these has translucent lenses for the eyes to allow illumination from the inside. To do that, you would have to take off the night cap, and insert under it the provided small circuitboard with a battery inserted in it; they provide two batteries. I will post a mini tutorial on that separately, but it is not very difficult in the end. The assembly is very sensitive, and a little tap or vibration would make the light go on or go off. Given how easily this happens, I would take the battery out when not using this feature.



Outfit - 4/4 stars
The clothing looks to be screen accurate and very nicely sized, proportioned, and tailored. The green long jacket has a concealed wire at the bottom, which makes it possible to pose it a little to simulate the effect of wind movement. The there is the dark blue floral print shirt, the black acid-washed jeans (with a black belt, which is there, even if not visible), and the molded boots discussed above. The jeans are wide enough and soft enough not to hamper articulation as much as one might expect, although the long coat's relatively tight sleeves do get in the way of some more pronounced movement of the arm at the shoulder and elbow.



Light Feature - see HERE.
I am not going to give this a score, both because it would be even more subjective and because it would not compare with many sets that have no such feature. Inserting a battery-powered mini circuit board into the alternate baby head (the cap can be taken off, and the eyes are blue translucent lenses), allows you to have the baby shoot blue lasers from its eyes -- or rather to illuminate said eyes. This works reasonably well when the surroundings are dark (which does not photograph well), and of course if you wanted to see the actual laser effect you would have to add that in photoshop or the graphics program of your choice. I haven't tried that yet. It is about as effective as that solution could be, short of finding a way of attaching translucent plastic lasers that would look right issuing out of the eyes and away from the body.



Fun Factor - 4/4 stars
Given the number and variety of accessories, the ready options for at least two basic looks, and the forthcoming availability of Billie's nemesis Homelander, and hopefully some others down the line, there is a ton of potential fun to be had with this set. For the purposes of this review and additional threads, I have given him as a counterpart the Hot Toys Man of Steel Superman, since that character was, after all, a sort of inspiration behind Homelander. If only Billy were a little taller... and Superman a little shorter...



Value - 4/4 stars
It is sad but probably accurate to admit that these days an action figure set, even if unlicensed, featuring a popular character from a popular franchise, would be priced reasonably low at $190 (USD). This is true in general, but also in particular: this set comes with two alternate realistic head sculpts, five weapons, several additional accessories, an admittedly unarticulated second character (the baby) with two head sculpts of its own (one of them with an electrical feature), not counting alternate hands and a nice action figure stand. Given what this is, and how things are, I would say that is a good deal.



Things to watch out for -
Not too much. I would be careful with any stiff joints, and work on them slowly and gradually. The Compound V vials are tiny and could be easily misplaced or lost. The same may be true for some of the rifle accessories. I do not know if it might be a hazard (or just a nuisance), but I would take out the battery when not using it, given how easily it is to activate (or deactivate) the light feature even with accidental vibration.



Overall -
I am very happy and impressed with this set. It renders a beloved character in sixth scale in all his scruffy and rough quality, giving him a recognizable and realistic look -- even if the more emotive head is less successful. It also provides him with a wealth of appropriate accessories up to an including a mutant baby with blue laser eyes. As himself, as a random extra character, or even as kitbashing material, this is a winner.

Introduction
Peggy Carter is familiar to audiences both as the love interest of Steve Rogers (Captain America) and as an able and intelligent agent in her own right. In the recent Marvel movies and shows she has been played by actress Hayley Atwell. JX Toys has just produced a figure of Atwell as Carter's character and it is this product that you are looking at here. I decided to change up the format a little bit, keep the review concise and end with a silent photo story giving you plenty of opportunity to observe the figure/character in different poses. Since I am no expert on the character and my ability to provide objective evaluation in some of the categories is limited (e.g., what other accessories would be appropriate, would she wear a cap with her uniform?), I have omitted assigning stars to the categories, but I believe the photos and descriptions would suffice for you to make up your own mind.



Packaging
The figure comes in a relatively compact hard cardboard shoe box-type container with a printed color image of the product on the cover. Inside it is a black foam trey with a thin sheet of black foam as a lid, containing the figure and its accessories. This is pretty basic, but also completely collector friendly and safe: my package was slightly damaged in the mail but although a little creased, the box held up, protecting the product.



Sculpting
The actress/character can look a little different in different angles, scenes, or settings, but I believe JX Toys produced a very accurate and realistic likeness of Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter. It has the slightly austere, overly neat look of the period, conveys the fashion of a bygone age, and is one of those instances where the finely sculpted hair does work well for anything but very short hairstyles. Since this is a jointed body (with some seamless soft shell material for the torso) that is pretty much all covered up, I did not evaluate the rest of it for sculpting, although I will note that a true seamless body would have helped with the look of the knees and, to some extent, ankles. The hands are sculpted of very soft plastic, but work very well.



Paint
The paint work is fairly minimal and very neat, both of which are appropriate. The face is pale but not unrealistic for the powdered and contrasting lipstick look of the era, the eyelashes and eyebrows are given very fine treatment, the eyes are glossy and symmetrical, the hair is perhaps a little flat but the fine sculpting of the strands overcomes any potential negative effect. Not seen in the photos, there is a bit of a hair clip showing at the top of the hair, which is appropriately painted a darker color and given a shiny finish. Even the fingernails are painted to match the lipstick, though here the level of detail and accuracy is just a little less impressive.



Articulation
The articulation of the underlying body appears to be excellent, providing for all the movement you could expect or desire. The shirt and jacket do make posing the arms a little more difficult, and the skirt definitely limits the articulation of the thighs, as well as the ab crunch. The ankles are articulated, but just a little loose, an effect compounded by the inherent instability of high heels in this (or any?) scale. This is really the only annoying feature of the body, and makes it very difficult to have the figure standing in even fairly neutral "museum" poses -- without a stand or something/someone to lean on. If there is anything that bears improvement, it is the functioning (and look) of these ankles.



Accessories
This is a very simple set. You get the figure in its outfit, some alternative hands, making a total of four pairs (relaxed, fists, trigger grip, knife grip), and a single true accessory, a non-articulated gun with painted handle and screws. This is minimal, but to be honest my memory of the movies (and I haven't seen the shows) is not detailed enough at this point to propose exactly what else should/could have been included. Moreover, retailing at about $105-140 (USD) even on eBay, while simple, this set is relatively modestly priced for a high-end figure from the Marvel Universe these days.



Outfit
The outfit is made up of stockings, underwear, a blouse, a skirt, a belt, and a jacket. Everything looks pretty well tailored and realistic, and the jacket is particularly impressive, with pleating and brass-colored metal buttons. Everything comes already on the figure, so unless you want to customize the look, you are all set. I removed the jacket to show the blouse, which also looks appropriate for the character and period, albeit inevitably creased. The belt works well, except for the difficulty in trying to get it to go into the cloth loop past the buckle. The one really annoying feature here are the stockings, which keep trying to slide down in an unsightly fashion and require repeated adjusting to look reasonably well. They also seem a little too light colored and opaque, but I am no expert in World War II-period stockings.

Before getting to the rest of the review, here is a little silent photo story (you can provide your own dialogue) that evolved from the photographs as I was taking them... World War II is not my period, so I didn't have all the necessary items, and this was the only other uniform from the time I had around. So consider it an alternate universe or what happens differently when Steve goes back...





















Fun Factor, Things to watch out for, Value, and Overall
There is almost nothing to worry about here, but as always, take care with the delicate wrist pegs. The combination of high heels, stockings, and less than perfectly tight ankle joints makes the figure quite unstable, so take this into account when posing it and displaying it. This cuts into the Fun Factor, as it can be annoying and time-consuming. But she looks great and will delight any and all of your Captain America figures, and probably anyone else too. Going for anywhere between $105 and $140 (USD), the set is not cheap in itself, but for a high-end rendition of a named protagonist from the Marvel Universe this is not bad. And if you worry whether the final product matches the promotional images, you need worry no longer: it does. Overall, this is an excellent figure with some minor issues. I imagine some customizers might end up swapping the body, and that might overcome some or all of these issues.

Tyrion Lannister, also referred to as "the Imp" or "the Halfman" and later by the alias Hugor Hill during exile, is a fictional character in A Song of Ice and Fire series of epic fantasy novels by American author George R. R. Martin and its television adaptation Game of Thrones. The character is portrayed by American actor Peter Dinklage in the HBO television adaptation Game of Thrones.

Tyrion is a dwarf and member of House Lannister of Casterly Rock, one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in the fictional kingdom of Westeros. In the story, Tyrion uses his status as a Lannister to mitigate the prejudice he has received all of his life, even from his family. Knowing that no one will ever take him seriously, he soothes his inadequacies with wine, wit and self-indulgence.

Billy's head sculpt was originally the Soldier Story Daniel Wu and Stacy's was Magic Cube Toys' SOCF CST Female Soldier.
