Did you ever watch The Expanse, Randam?

ETA: And as for Star Wars, while I am purposefully out of the loop of Disney's version of it, as a die-hard fan of the 'real' Star Wars, I don't even really consider it to be 'sci fi'.... at least, to me it is more of a fantasy story that just happens to be set in space. ;p

The Expanse is on my list of series to watch. I watched two episodes so far but felt I really need some time to concentrate on it. I think it is nothing that you can enjoy while doing other stuff.

I share your feelings about Disney's Star Wars, Sky. It's more Space Fantasy than Science Fiction. I'm still resisting feeding the Disney monster with a "Disney+" subscription, so I'm also out of the loop with their new series.

I think you might enjoy the Expanse, although everyone is different. I love it, for the most part.

To be honest, even the Star Wars Original Trilogy was more Space Fantasy (I think the term used then was Space Opera) than Science Fiction, but yes, there is a definite difference and in many ways not for the better.

Looking at them, whichever your submission, I'm sure it would be pretty damn awesome. I look forward to seeing it here in more detail, as with any other submissions by our members (I know several more have voted in the competition and I expect some participated as well, as in previous years).

Yes, that was what I was trying to say in my original comment.... I probably worded it awkwardly. Razz

I agree re: The Expanse, no tv series is perfect, but it was one of the better sci-fi I've seen in recent times. I always do warn people though that it takes a little while to get into it, so you have to be prepared to give it a chance (I was probably hooked about five episodes in, though for some it might take a bit longer).

Also looking forward to seeing Randam's entry. : )

I like those, too. And the various Stargate series, and the two Dune series by the Syfy channel (isn't this what it calls itself now?). In each of these cases except for Dune, it took me a long time before I finally ended up watching them. I don't actually insist on something being hardcore Sci-Fi, was just commenting that Star Wars is technically not it. There are some Sci-Fi movies that take themselves so seriously they become unwatchable, and others that are just so poorly written or directed or shot that it is hard to evaluate. Smile

Here's my little story of the hacker J.D. Denton who roams the streets of Cyberpunk 2077's Night City. She has just stolen a military robot prototype from one of the big corporations called Militech. While the gig went smooth, she's now eager to deliver the hot merchandise to her shady client. She really wants to settle thise deal quickly, as Militech might be already at her heels...

Taylor had it coming big time trying to shoot J.D.. The robot blew most of his fuses with the plasma gun, but he will live...

BTW J.D. is loosely based on Judy Alvarez from the Cyberpunk game...

I obviuosly made some changes to the original design, giving her a prosthetic left hand and switching her head implant to the opposite site. The implant contains two tiny LEDs, so that it can shine in red or blue...

The AFD competition still runs this week. There are no official results so far, but my entry didn't do too well in the first round of character presentation, as competition was stiff. We will see what the voting on round two will bring, but I don't expect to win anything, as there are very strong outdoor pics by Ovy and others.

Since the competition ist over, I'm taking the opportunity to place the residual character pictures (with extras) in here. Note that the nail tattoos that were used did not stick too well on the TBLeague body, so  I had to fix them with silicone glue (not very elegant). I intend to redo the tattoos with a Gundam marker sometime soon.

It's the third time I'm looking at images of your kickass custom and it still wows, in every photo. Beautiful job, and beautiful photos, as before. Not being a tattoo guy myself (those Star Wars customs I consider "warpaint"), I'm not too bothered if the tattoos flake off. However, at least you should be safe with silicon glue, which you should be able to remove without damage when the time comes. With the Gundam real paint markers, just remember to work in small portions and immediately soak up the extra ink after each increment application. Also, if you make a mistake, some immediate and vigorous washing might undo it.

Beautfiul to finally see your work in full resolution, magnificent job! So proud of you. Very Happy  I think it might be your best work yet, aside from the Tattoos it's almost perfect, and that's fixable. You did so much right to transport a moody Cyberpunk atmosphere here and chose the perfect backdrops and props to make it realistic. Your lighting does so much. By far my favourite entry in that competition.

From what I gather in my occasional encounters with these on YouTube, at least Andor feels and looks more like "real" Star Wars than the others, which was also a major boon for Rogue One.

Ovy --- yes, yes, you converted me long ago to watching The Expanse. Also Drummer is my ultimate girl-crush, I LOOOOOVE her.  Randam's random pics - Page 16 1f60d

As for the 'other' show you are mentioning, unfortunately no amount of pushing will get me to watch any recent Disney-era Star Wars media. I am extremely stubborn on this fact. MAYYYYBE someday down the road I would potentially change my mind, but only after I finish all my 1/6 scale Star Wars projects, so it would still be several years off before I'd even *consider* it.

Of course, I don't mind if others watch and enjoy it, though. My husband is watching it and seems to like it, but even he cannot get me to watch it. I've had to be incredibly firm on this for my own personal reasons which are too long and involved to explain on poor Randam's thread. Razz

And getting back on topic.... I agree, I had a look at the other entries to the competition, and Randam's photostory was definitely the standout! I love you

well, though I do agree that it is very good (I might not be quite at the same fan level yet as you are), just wait with the crusade/mission until the first season is completely in…. they still have two episodes to send the thing south Wink

Andor‘s advantage imo is that they could start with kind of a blank sheet as not much had been known about him in Rogue One - and the little there was, had been ignored Laughing (as I found out yesterday when rewatching Rogue One). The story works, whether it‘s Star Wars or any other rebellion. But set in some dear environment with some known elements and some new…

I also really liked the Expanse (loved Drummer too Cool ). I did not really get the idea of this protomolecule thing Embarassed , but anyway…

Your pics are a temptation to play Cyberpunk, but I was told that it is kind of the style where you do not see your character but your character‘s hands only? I don‘t particularly enjoy that (not that I have played that many games yet, hardly any actually tongue - I am too old to remember the functions and to slow to act… )

I deeply loved Rogue One, but "The Last Jedi" by Rian Johnson was such a punch in the guts that I am completely done with the new SW movies/series. Worst thing was that my friends were so hyped that they liked the movie -- and I was acting like the party pooper. When I recently watched "Rise of Skywalker" on TV, I could not believe how poor the whole story arc was developed and finished... So, no Andor or Mandalorian series for me any time soon! Especially, because I don't want to motivate Disney with my money to pump out more crap.

With Star Trek/ Picard being rebooted by people who hate Star Trek, I should definitively watch the Expanse now. Smile

Concerning Cyberpunk I have to say that CD project had far too high ambitions. I love and hate the game at the same time. The gameplay loop is rather dull, but the world and atmosphere is really breathtaking. The storytelling is quite inconsistent with some really cool ideas and well-written characters (better than Witcher III) and some infantile (sexistic) crap. But if you have the chance, check it out, Illusion! BTW I think I'm pretty much your age, so that's no excuse... Smile
