I was just going through all my POs, and OH MY GOD! I'm insane! (I think I need some sort of counciling). How bad is your damage reports? Mine is off the charts nuts. Impressive, Mark, I don't know if it is insane, but it is impressive.

Anything else, I'd probably buy a few parted out pieces here and there, or order once I see in hand photos.

Quiet the list Mark! I think if you have the space for them go for it. Other people buy luxury cars or similar things for that money and I think figures are a much better hobby and more fun. 

My preorders aren't that many but some of them are on the expensive side (Luckily, I don'T have the space for too many figures that keeps the impulse in check)

On the opposite end of the scale, I was thinking just a few days ago how good it feels to have no outstanding pre-orders and nothing incoming from eBay or anywhere else! It's been a while since I could say that, and I'm appreciating the break!

I try not to preorder anything, but I missed out on the first four VeryCool figures I wanted so I do it sparingly now.  My pre-orders are down to two:

 Katsumi in Blue (SuperDuck SET073 - release date Q3-2022)
 MTF Alpha-9 (VeryCool VCF-063 - release date Q2 - 2023)

My first VeryCool pre-order released on time, so I'm disappointed the SuperDuck Katsumi hasn't come out yet.

I've also missed out by having something in my cart sell out while I'm still thinking it over a week later - really disappointing, and that usually triggers a shopping spree.  Good thing I'm happy with buying the TBL bodies and picking up parts from Rattlesnake, Monkey Depot, Black Ops and occasionally eBay to create my own characters.  Unfortunately, my head sculpt collection is growing - just too many really nice ones out there or on the way.

Looking forward to making up a few simple dioramas soon.

Mezco 1/12 Crow Review

Dangit, I looked at my list and was going to say it wasn't too bad, then I counted and it's quite a bit still lol. I think this year for me there are less 3rd party figures and mostly Hot Toys on my list. A lot of my 3rd party items came in during the year and one clothing set got cancelled.

And here I was thinking I needed help. LOL. But look at it from the bright side, be glad you can actually afford all this.

I only pre-order things that I really really want, the rest I only wishlist, and based on my budget some of my wishlist gets deleted, some gets promoted to orders, while still others unfortunately sell out while on my wishlist.

Wow, some of these lists are immense! I only have two preorders for clothing from August, but I decided to steer away from any preorders after realizing how long the waiting game is, how off the mark the estimated dates of release are, and the last minute cancelations of year long preorders that sell out before the product you preordered makes it to you. The frustration isn't worth it. Plus I worry that I may get bored of the hobby before the product is released.

I'm actually glad I pre-ordered some of these figures last year and paid them in advance as the exchange rate between my local currency and the shops has skyrocketed since. I'd need to pay 25% more for them now. And even if they do end up being cancelled by the seller, the refunds would feel like gifts now.

OMG, Stryker, what a long long list of pre-orders you have?    It's hard to believe ...  
I'm a little worried about you. Are you ok with this large amount of pre-orders?  


I only have a few pre-orders (limited budget). I don't buy complete figures, only individual bodies and head sculpts. Luckily I can always buy Phicen bodies in peace - e.g. first read reviews here in the forum.

But I sometimes pre-order head sculpts from Giantoy, because some have sold out quickly and you can't always wait for in-hand photos. So if they are super important to me then pre-order. But if possible not more than about 5 pieces at the same time. Sometimes I have many months without a pre-order if there are no interesting heads for me.

Yes, with all these temptations to buy, it can sometimes be very difficult to decide.

I understand that well. As a beginner with my collection, 2015, I had very few criteria to choose from - a big problem. It overwhelmed me to choose wisely and for a while I bought way more than was good for me and my budget. So I quickly lost overview. I couldn't photograph that much with the large mass. And then I didn't have a special relationship anymore - everything blurred in a large mass of fashion dolls.

Then my interest in collecting suddenly changed and it took me many years to sell them all again. And built a new collection. And again and again I had to make it a point to orientate myself on criteria and budgets. Don't buy too many again, that doesn't bring more joy either (and only for a short time).

I also think it's nice when you still know all of your characters, maybe even give them your own names and remember them. Don't look it up in an Excel list - then there are probably too many figures.


Maybe a few ideas if you see new releases and actually want to buy this and that:

- First go to your showcases and see what kind of beautiful (and many) figures you already have.
- Appreciate the existing figures, enjoy them again and not just when unpacking them.
- And remember, each new character would take away time to care for, which is missing for the older characters.
- Try to create a special connection to some favorite characters that you do something with again and again - reposition them, redress them, take pictures, maybe stand on the table next to you for a short time etc.


It's just ideas and suggestions. It's only well intentioned. Of course, you decide how you want to design your collection ...

That is indeed an impressive (if rather terrifying, lol) list of pre-orders, Stryker. I hope you have made your way through some of them by now at least.... hang in there!  

I hadn't commented on this thread until now, because there have been several figures I was unsure as to whether I'd actually end up pre-ordering. This past year has been highly unusual for me in that normally I would have maybe 1 or 2 Hot Toys on pre-order at most, but have ended up with... a lot more than that!  I'd actually been perfectly happy to be less of a collector and more of a customiser in the last few years. However, for some reason this year Hot Toys decided to announce a whole bunch of 'grail' figures I've been waiting YEARS for...all at once. I'd been out of regular employment since the pandemic, so I was panicking a bit as to how in the world I'd be able to afford all these. Hence why I didn't commit to everything I wanted until I was truly sure. Thankfully, I do have a job again now and have been steadily playing catch up....

List of all the figures I've PO'd over the last year or so:

1) Hot Toys Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones - Anakin Skywalker  
2) Hot Toys Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones - Padme Amidala

These two figures are LONG overdue, can't wait to have them in hand.    Even if the Padme is not as perfect a likeness as I'd hoped, it's still an extremely welcome addition to my Anakin and Padme collection.

3) Hot Toys Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones - R2-D2 (due soon)

This one is supposedly out soon....just waiting to be alerted to its arrival. It will be so fun to finally have R2 for photoshoots! Especially my beloved rocket version so I can recreate some Clone Wars hijinks.  

4) Hot Toys Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Obi-Wan Kenobi

I had mixed feelings on this one, but that isn't a surprise as I'm super nitpicky at the best of times. On the one hand, it's TCW Obi-Wan to go with my Clone Wars line-up. Means I don't have to make a custom version from scratch, so ....yay! On the other hand, I was admittedly hoping for a re-issue of the previous headsculpt they'd used for the RotS figure, and instead got a new sculpt with moveable eyes. The likeness is arguably 'better' in this new one, but imo it has that typical problem of looking too old. More like the current Ewan than mid-2000s Ewan. I also don't give a crap about moveable eyes on 1/6 figures and feel they are too much extra fiiddling about when posing. So, I'm currently leaning toward swapping the head out completely if I can find something better. (Whether I sell the moveable eye one or not will depend on my mood at the time, lol.)

5) Hot Toys Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (40th anniversary edition) Darth Vader

This one is self-explanatory. One of my ultimate grail figures in this whole hobby, been waiting for this version since I started collecting in this scale. No way was I going to miss it.

6) Hot Toys OWK Darth Vader (from the tv series that I prefer to ignore)

I had zero interest in this version when it was announced and tried to pretend I didn't even see the thread for it, lol. As you all know by now, I am NOT a fan of Disney's version of Star Wars, and refuse to watch anymore of the endless onslaught of disney series. So why the hell did I PO this? Welp, it's simple.... for kitbashing. I've been trying to put together a particular custom Vader for years, and needed a base to use that was as close as possible to the Rogue One Vader but with light-up options. I also wanted a Vader that could more easily swap his helmet during photoshoots (some of them are very difficult to remove without damaging). This one had all of those qualities so it seemed silly not to go for it.  But as it stands, I will be getting rid of the art box along with several extra accessories that I have no interest in, just so I don't even have to look at them!

7) Sideshow Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Ahsoka Tano (due soon)

While this line of animated-style figures has been largely disappointing for many collectors (myself included), there's just no way I could pass this one up. I have seen an unboxing video of her already and it's actually not too bad all things considered. The headsculpt isn't how I would have liked (not entirely accurate to the animation design, sigh), but it seems ok for what it is. The fact it's on a tbleague body was a big selling point for me in terms of PO'ing it. (The issues with the crappy Sideshow body was what lead me to cancel my PO for the Anakin figure from the same line.)

8 ) Sideshow Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Anakin Skywalker (already released a while ago)

I originally had this on pre-order but then cancelled after seeing many negative reviews. I still wanted the figure since I'm fairly completionist when it comes to collecting my faves, but I just didn't want to pay enormous import/custom fees for a figure that was subpar at best. So I waited a long time until I could snag one of these for a lower price from a UK seller. Thankfully, I recently managed to do just that. He's now waiting for Ahsoka to show up so they can have some adventures together (ie: eventual photoshoots ).


9) ETA: Just went back and realised I'd forgotten one! I also PO'd the third party TPM Queen Amidala figure!

10) Don't think I need to mention the recently-announced Hot Toys Artisan Anakin figure, which I would sell a kidney to acquire at this point!
