I know we tend to prioritize the seamless action figure bodies (for a comparison of Jiaou and TBLeague/Phicen bodies, see HERE), as they promise a higher degree of realism, but there is plenty of use for traditional hard plastic visible-jointed bodies. They are, after all, more affordable, easier to clothe (in part because so much sixth-scale clothing is made with them in mind), and safer to leave in extreme poses for a long time. I may experiment stuffing TBLeague bodies into all sorts of garments, but if they cover the shoulders, elbows, and knees, I am likely to turn over these garments to the more traditional bodies.

Some time ago Ovy treated us to an overview of several low budget bodies (see HERE), and I am following up with this look at six new-ish bodies of similar type. If you've been around the hobby for a while, you would have noticed that companies spend some years using basically the same body before changing the design and moving on to a new one, with some exceptions for special characters. Three of the leading military action figure companies, DAM, Easy & Simple (E&S), and Dragon in Dreams (DID) have all recently started using new body designs. While DID is actually selling base bodies, the other two can be obtained easily enough from parted out sets. Although less recent, there are also some new-ish bodies by JX (I am looking at the S-02 and S-03), and there is the very recent bulkier body by Molaolao, which was used (with added tattoos) for the Gangster Ma figure by Moz Studios (for all I know, Molaolao and Moz Studios are the same thing, but I cannot confirm it).

The figures and their articulation range are shown three at a time in two sets, with a TBLeague M33 seamless body for comparison. Some of the poses parallel those from Ovy's comparisons, others hearken back to my old reviews (mostly on Michael Crawford's review site). All in all, all six bodies have good articulation, although some are better than others; unsurprisingly the bulkiest body, by Molaolao, is usually the one that can attain a more limited range than the others, although on occasion it surprises; the JX bodies have single-jointed elbows, unlike the others; the DID body (which is a slender shortish version, apparently they come in several variants) is meant for heads with integral necks or a separate neck piece. There is a general trend away from the Hot Toys Truetype-style bodies with their visible open shoulder joints, presumably for aesthetic purposes; these are now concealed behind the softer plastic shell of the upper torsos, except for Molaolao, which does not have this articulation or a softer plastic shell.



DAM 3.5 (with its own head) is 29.5 cm (11.6 in) tall; this height varies depending on the length of DAM ankle joints one uses (there are two); the new body's feet are also taller than the old ones.
E&S MK3 (with its own head) is 30 cm (11.8 in) tall; the new feet are unarticulated and characteristically cut off flat at the top.
DID Advanced Slim (with its own head) is 29 cm (11.4 in) tall; these bodies come (or will come) in several variations (this one being "advanced slim," or OA60002) and can be purchased as base bodies ($19 USD at Timewalker Toys!); the body is the only one that still uses articulated feet.
M33 (with an HT head) is 29.75 cm (11.7 in) tall. Just here for comparison.



All bodies can stand reasonably well on their own, even in minor stride, and place their arms in front of their torso.



All bodies can extend their arms straight up or bend them over the shoulder.



All bodies can take a knee (hero landing pose) and touch their opposite shoulder or biceps.



DAM and E&S have some trouble making splits properly but DID and M33 can.



All bodies can talk on a cell phone or make a face palm, and touch the opposite elbow.



Bending backwards, DAM performs least impressively, M33 most impressively, E&S and DID about the same, somewhere in-between.



All bodies can sit cross-legged.



Bending forwards, DAM is most limited, E&S less so, DID can reach his feet, M33 can do the same and more (see second set).



Sideways twist: all but M33 (due to its TPE "skin" or rather "flesh") should be able to rotate around their axis at the waist, but the effect would not be natural. In such a pose and with variously extended limbs and foot placement, the bodies can stand unassisted.



All bodies can make slightly wider strides and remain standing.



And all bodies have no problems sitting on a chair or bench, which should be a given, but is not always the case, especially where heftier or seamless bodies are concerned.

On to the second set of bodies, with JX S-02, JX S-03, and Molaolao.



JX S-02 (with a KO Arnold head) is 30.2 cm (11.9 in) tall. The JX bodies' ankles function a little strangely due to the ring fitted over the ankle joint, between the bottom of the leg and the top of the foot. Their elbows are single-jointed and the sculpted nipples are painted. (Available at Timewalker Toys for $38.50 USD)
JX S-03 (with a DAM head that doesn't match color-wise) is 29.5 cm (11.6 in) tall. (Available at Timewalker Toys for $30 USD)
Molaolao ATM01 (with an InFlames head that doesn't mach color-wise) is almost 31 cm (12.2 in) tall. The upper torso is a hard plastic shell, meaning less shoulder and neck articulation. The ankles are unfortunately like those of the soccer player figures from years ago, with the ankle peg fitting at an angle forward into the foot. It works strangely and not very effectively, especially combined with the body's weight and high center of gravity.
 


The single-jointed elbows and shoulder limitations of the JX bodies mean they cannot cross their arms beyond the wrists; Molaolao has double-jointed elbows, but bulky muscles made of hard plastic and proportionately relatively short arms, meaning the best he can do is point at the ring on his left hand (a leftover of the Moz Studios Gangster Ma design). Despite the various strange or unfortunate ankles, all three bodies (as well as M33) can stand on their own in a small stride pose.



They can extend their arms up, albeit at some angle, and can bend it behind their backs, although the single-jointed elbows of the JX bodies limit the articulation to about 90 degrees. M33 does not have these limitations.



All can take a knee (superhero landing pose), but none of the three can reach his opposite shoulder or biceps (except, of course, M33).



Surprisingly, all bodies can do the splits very well, with or without rotating one of the legs around its axis (I did it, but unnecessarily); JX bodies still have trouble bending the arm over the back.



JX bodies cannot easily talk on a cellphone (unless on Speaker!) or do a face palm; Molaolao can, but none of the three (excepting, of course, M33) can reach their opposite elbow.



Bending backwards, the JX bodies are more limited, though not unreasonably so. Molaolao excells them, which was a surprise, and of course M33 can just about roll itself into a ball.



All the bodies can sit cross-legged.



Bending forward, Molaolao is the most limited, and the JX bodies a little better. M33 can actually touch and hold his toes.



Sideways twist: again, the hard plastic visible-jointed bodies technically excel M33 by being able to rotate completely around their axis at the waist, but this is not how human articulation works. JX S-02 can do this more easily than the others, which encounter more resistance than M33 with its own only partial rotation.



All the bodies can take a wider stride and still stand on their own.



Finally, all the bodies can sit in a chair or on a bench without trouble. Especially in the case of the bulky Molaolao this was not a given (a cushion might still help, as the body might want to rock/roll backwards if unsupported).

It seems like forever since I've reviewed a base body, but my World Box AT030 arrived, and here is a short review.

AT030 is marketed as one of World Box's trademark "crazy durable" bodies. It is more muscular than its predecessors. Like them, it is made of mostly hard plastic, with open joints. Unlike some releases, there are no swappable seamless arms. Because of this, and because of the extremely muscular body type, there is slightly more restriction on the articulation, and the appearance is a bit cartoonish. Of course, if one is going to show as much skin as needed for a body review like this, one might as well invest in a seamless body, which would largely avoid these limitations.



The body comes without a head or any clothing (the ones I used here were borrowed from the HH & HY Imperial Army Hunting Ground Gaul Warrior set) in the usual cardboard box, packed within a layer of black plastic foam material. Nothing fancy, but perfectly practical and utilitarian; the back of the box reminds us to soften joints with a hair dryer if necessary.



With the added head, the body stands about 32 cm (almost 12.5 in) tall. The head would articulate only at the top of the neck, as the latter is part of the molded hard plastic upper torso. Like other World Box base bodies, this one is a boy, with non-removable indication to that effect; hence, the added briefs, however minimal. There is a subtle variation in paint, enhancing the musculature and adding bit of extra realism, alongside the textured surface of the body; all of this is drastically offset, of course, by the pretty obvious open joints.



The body comes with a small number of accessories or rather spare parts: an alternative neck peg, and three extra pairs of hands, for a total of four pairs: relaxed, fists, knife grip, and gun grip (with the index finger extended in such way that it also looks like a pointing hand). As usual for World Box, the hands and feet are given fine sculpts and finishes, on a par with the treatment of the body itself.



As has been the case sometimes in the past, right out of the box, the body's joints are very stiff. In a couple of places I used a hair dryer before forcing them -- I don't want anything to break, "crazy durable body" or not (I remember ACI bodies were experts at doing exactly that, if you so much as looked at them the wrong way). Given the attempted compromise between a hard plastic body with open joints and an effort to have a reasonably realistic and aesthetic sculpt, some aspects of the articulation are severely limited. For example, the body can sit, but just barely, and not very convincingly.



The intended articulation of the torso is more visible than functional.



Strange that a guy this buff would fail some basic gym class exercises.



But he is still willing to try and demonstrate what he can do.



Although they require some considered posing, the ankle pegs work well, and can be used to support a range of stances; similarly, the wrist pegs. In both instances, they can pivot and swivel. The elbows and knees are double-jointed, and work well, apart from the limitation imposed by the bulkiness of the hard plastic upper and lower limbs, and of course the resulting unrealistic appearance.



With some careful posing, one can even balance the figure on one leg, as in the photos above and below; although this is perhaps not clear from the image, here the figure is not supported in any additional manner. I do not know how long it can be relied upon to hold this position, and it would be easily thrown off balance.



That was pretty impressive to me, especially after the frustration of having to work with these joints -- TBLeague has spoiled me with their smooth articulation.



Nevertheless, the limitations are pretty palpable. No chance of turning our AT030 bodybuilder into a thinker, I suppose.



But he feels his bulging muscles more than make up for it, and that he's a hit with the ladies. It seems cruel and rude to disabuse him of that notion.

To be honest, I got this body mostly out of curiosity, although for the most part I was not surprised in my expectation (balancing act apart). If I use it, it would be almost completely covered up, and there even a less muscular body with some padding could do. The sculpt and durability are nice, but the appearance and limitations on the articulation remain significant drawbacks -- from my point of view.

As promised, I'm posting a review of the new (or not that new) sixth-scale seamless body line by LDDoll. The company has created some 15 female bodies and three male ones -- according to the information on the side of the box. They are made to order, which means longer turnaround time and higher costs. Apart from choosing between different body types (varying in terms of height, musculature, bust size), one can choose from up to six colors for the female bodies and two for the male ones, simple or full "make up" (coloring of nipples, muscle lines), and flexible or inflexible fingers. The last options ("make up," flexible fingers) also mean an increase in price.

While I'm quite happy with many of the TBLeague (Phicen) products (and to some extent Jiaou Doll's), I liked the more slender physique I saw on some of the female and male bodies by LDDoll and wondered if they would be viable action figure body alternatives. Given the unknowns, I went for the lowest priced product I came across, a male body (labeled 32Boy on the box but this was probably a mistake and the product seems to be 30Boy), but paid for the "full make up" and flexible fingers options. It is also more convenient having fewer areas to censor or cover up in what is supposed to be a revealing review.

Val had enough of Billy's antics and conspiracy theories (on those two, see HERE), and was excited to meet the new guy, so she volunteered to be my assistant. The LDDoll box turned out to be fairly similar to what we get from TBLeague, and in a similar color scheme and design. On one side of the box there is a checklist allowing you to find out exactly what body and what options you are getting inside.



There are no plastic treys, just the body packaged in a plastic bag and some air-filled packaging, an information leaflet, a brush for applying protective powder, an extra (or alternative) neck connector, and three sausage-like male appendages that plug into the body (which will not be shown). Although intrigued, Val made sure they stayed out of sight.



Ever the good student, she made sure to review the information booklet carefully. She focused on the English side. It is part advertisement for the company, part information on the product and its functionality, exemplified for a female body.



There is a graphic showing the basic articulation on the Chinese side of the leaflet.



Here is the body out of the box. The silicon skin/flesh material feels not too different from the TPE material used by TBLeague; LDDoll's may be a little oilier, which means you do not want to have it touch paper items you don't want stained. And because, as I feared, it cannot really stand on its own (the curse of seamless ankles), it needs to lean on something. The part of the manhood that does not plug in is actually part of the body sculpt/mold.



Here is a comparison between the LDDoll 32Boy body and the TBLeague M33 body. With the "full makeup" option on the LDDoll body, you get faintly colored nipples and sprayed-on musculature to accentuate the sculpted/molded musculature already in place. The nipples are an improvement on the TBLeague body; the sprayed-on muscles I'd prefer to skip, leaving it to natural shapes and shadows (note the asymmetric six pack, which is unfortunately accentuated by the coloring).





Now that the body was provided with a head and shorts, it was properly introduced to Val, who was cautiously optimistic, although she wondered why (let's call him) Ethan needed to be supported at all times. With the head on, he stands 30 cm (11.8 in) tall.



Alas, Ethan could not stand on his own. Contrary to what has been reported about some LDDoll bodies (earlier and/or female ones), there do appear to be some appropriate inflexible bone-like sections inside, which would get in the way of most unnatural bending. While there appear to be some fairly strong ankles inside, between the silicon flesh on the underside of the feet and what is apparently not a strong continuous endoskeleton structure inside, the body cannot balance and stabilize on its own -- it jiggles and falls. He pretended it was so he could exercise.



He is pretty good at doing push ups.





And while they do not always look quite natural (although presumably more attentive and careful posing would help), the seamless wrists and flexible fingers are really pretty neat.



And he can be made to hold all sorts of things quite well, sometimes better and easier than it would be with interchangeable harder plastic fixed-sculpt hands.









The mold seam line along the side of the body and limbs is possibly fixable but very much more apparent than what we are used to from other seamless body products (TBLeague, Jiaou Doll).



Despite her reservations, Val was intrigued by Ethan.



Conscious of his limitations, he was not immediately responsive.



He did appreciate her support, and slowly warmed up to her.









And she to him.



Before long, it was a whirlwind romance.



In the end, however, she was not as impressed as she thought (or hoped) she would be. He caught her sneaking out.



And was left profoundly depressed by the experience.



But not for long, as he soon had to take quick evasive action to avoid the wrath of a jealous and irate Butcher...



All in all, I would say this figure (and presumably the rest of the line) has a great deal of potential. Even without being perfect, seamless wrists and ankles and flexible fingers are very neat. Perhaps these areas can be improved a little for appearance and accuracy. The movement of the limbs is smooth enough, though not as decisive (for the lack of a better word) as TBLeague's. They hold their position well enough, but jiggle when moved. Even if they looked and worked perfectly (which is not yet the case here), seamless wrist and hand and seamless ankles and feet would naturally have a practical limitation in that they would stand in the way of certain gloved and shod looks, being non-swappable; they might also stand in the way of certain outfits with overly tight sleeves or pant legs. But otherwise they would be quite something.

The biggest, enormous drawback here is the inability of the body to stand on its own. When it comes to action figures that is a very basic expectation, and the lack of a proper combination of a good endoskeleton and ankles undermines its great potential. I have little use for a figure that cannot stand, and for me that means that between their other limitations and hefty cost, LDDoll bodies are not a viable alternative or complement to the TBLeague and Jiaou Doll seamless bodies on the market.

This first post is about the Jiaou Doll Strong Male Body (12D); comparisons with all three Jiaou Doll male bodies in Post 27 below; additional comparisons in Post 70 below; new Jiaou Doll Male Body (17A) and comparisons in Post 78 below; all four Jiaou Doll male bodies compared below HERE.

Since there has been much discussion, on and off, about the skintone, body shape, durability, and articulation of Jiaou Doll bodies, and since I had a couple of 12D bodies lying around that I hadn't done much with, I thought I'd do a short comparison review. As it happened, (at first) I only had TBLeague's most massive body, M35, handy without being fully kitted-up at the moment, so the comparison is not going to be necessarily fair -- except insofar as comparing the most muscular male Jiaou Body with the most muscular male TBLeague body. The specific Jiaou Doll bodies shown here are JOK-12D-BS and JOK-12D-PS (the product number is sometimes also broken down as JO-K12D- etc.).



Obviously, M35 is more muscular by far than the 12D bodies. M35 is also an example of the usual male "suntan" skintone used by TBLeague, which is darker than Jiaou's male "wheaten" skintone (on 12D-BS) and warmer than Jiaou's "black" or "dark" skintone (on 12D-PS). Yes, the description is hard to believe. In most aspects of articulation M35 and 12D are comparable, but this is in part due to M35's muscles keeping it from reaching the slightly fuller range of articulation possible with TBLeague bodies. Keep in mind that while you can press and hold these bodies into more stretched/bent poses, what you see in the photos are the poses they can actually hold on their own.













A closer comparison to Jiaou's 12D body would be TBLeague's very first seamless male body, M30. I managed to dig up an M30 eventually, and added it with a few more comparison shots. M30 is notoriously short and a greyish sort of pale. The skintone makes it somewhat comparable to Jiaou's 12D-PS (of all things!), although if Jiaou was inspired by M30, it fixed the issue with the height. While some of the musculature is comparable, M30 is still more muscular, if slightly less defined, after all (look at the biceps, from the side). Being less muscular than M35, M30 can reach a slightly fuller range of articulation (the leaner bodies, M31, M32, M33 can do even more).









Apart from being more muscular than their previous versions, the 12D bodies have slightly improved the shape of the seamless legs -- previously they looked to me like they were wearing leg-shaped pants over the actual legs. This is a little better now, but another problem persists: Jiaou Doll male bodies still look to me like they have wide, child-bearing hips.

This is not a full review, but in terms of accessories (not shown above), you would have the following:
TBLeague male bodies typically come with a total of 3 swappable pairs of hands (usually fists, relaxed hands, and grip hands), 1 pair of swappable feet, and 2-3 swappable pieces of genitalia (but 0 in the case of M31); some models had trunks or underwear and other pieces of clothing to cover wrists and ankles (except M30, M31, M35, M36); the hands tend to be relatively soft plastic that is easy to bend as needed;
Jiaou Doll male bodies typically come with a total of 4 swappable pairs of hands (fists, relaxed hands, knife grip hands, gun grip hands), 2 swappable pairs of feet (flat and slightly bent toes for walking -- not used above), and 5 swappable pieces of genitalia (not counting the tiny molded part on the body); some models had underwear and other pieces of clothing to cover wrists and ankles; there is a plastic display stand -- all of this is the case with 12D; the hands tend to be relatively hard pieces of plastic with less in the way of individual finger sculpting.

Another Mistress Gina tutorial: TBLeague neck stuffing.

Several days ago someone asked how to paint nipples and certain other parts on TBLeague female bodies. Both the way the question was posed and the photo illustration were questionably appropriate vis-a-vis our site's regulations, so a moderator removed the post. Nevertheless, since the subject has come up more than once, here is a step-by-step tutorial, using a male figure (thanks to double standards, male nipples are not considered offensive). The process is similar to that for painting seamless bodies with oil pastels (see full thread HERE), but with some more specific techniques. This post will eventually be parked in the Tutorials section.

Note: Human nipples come in different shapes and sizes, and your needs or preferences may vary. I use two colors, usually Staedtler's Rose Wood and Dark Sand.

Note: Because the application of the oil pastel is not as intensive as that possible when painting entire bodies or larger areas, this is largely undoable -- with a bit of determined washing with soap and water.

The same or analogous stencil and oil pastels method can be used to paint other areas or designs on the seamless bodies. If using a Jiaou body, remember that its TPE surface is less durable than the TBLeague/Phicen kind, and be very careful rubbing in oil pastel.

A conversation with Ovy got me to try out a pair of sixth-scale Adidas-like track pants from an eBay seller in China (from the TYM031 sports clothing set). You may have seen them among the "goofing" photos in the Silver Linings photo story thread. I used the same body to answer a question about head and body skin tone matching by ReverendSpooky, and stumbled across a minor discovery. While I had tested the pants on a hard-plastic open-jointed body and determined they will not stain, as I suspected the stretchy fabric caused plenty of fiber transfer. But before automatically going to wash it off (or reaching for the lint brush), it occurred to me that the tiny fibers were a way to achieve a relatively subtle body hair effect. So I massaged the offending garment onto the silicone surface in sensible places for a quick test, and I think the result confirmed my theory. I didn't even think to remove the protective powder before I applied the effect, which might have enhanced it. We have looked at other ways of adding an extra touch of realism through either attaching body hair, or spreading it on with a paint brush, or painting it with the finest pens that would cure on the surface, but in most instances the result is not subtle enough. This seems to overcome that problem, although it might be a tad too subtle. At any rate, here are some photos.









The result is semi-permanent in this sense: you cannot easily remove the effect by handling or even wiping the surface. But you can use a lint brush to lift the fibers or you can wash the surface with soap and water. Either way, remember to re-apply protective powder.

Since the subjects of different body types, heights, care, precautions, etc. keep coming up when it comes to TBLeague's / Phicen's super-flexible seamless bodies with steel internal skeletons, and since the information provided is scattered across a dozen topics in various states of completeness or relevance, I decided to start a thread that tries to assemble everything we need to know as a central area of reference for these bodies.

This catalog is limited to TBLeague / Phicen super-flexible seamless bodies with steel internal skeletons and TPE skin/flesh (note that while TBLeague's advertising listed the material as silicon, a company spokeswoman has confirmed it is in fact TPE -- HERE; it does appear to have slightly different properties from the TPE used in Jiaou Doll seamless action figure bodies). Information in the notes below has been updated accordingly, but keep in mind this correction when accessing other pages and information.

This page was created at a time when the company in question was officially called TBLeague. It has since resumed the name Phicen. Both names refer to the same company and the naming has not been updated in references below.

Introduction
TBLeague (formerly Phicen) has recently released its second 1/12 scale female seamless body (that is not part of a boxed set per se), and made it available in pale (T03A) and suntan (T03B) versions. The present review is focused on T03B, with a partial comparison to the previously released T01B. I've already reviewed the male figures HERE.



Packaging - 4/4 stars
Something I really liked about TBLeague's 1/12 figure packaging is how compact it was, in relatively small and sturdy plastic boxes with foam sheets to secure everything inside. This is still the case, except that the box is significantly larger than those that came with their previous 1/12 bodies. This is due mostly to the inclusion of additional items, most notably the base/stand, although I wonder whether a more compact package might not have been attainable. Still, the box and its several layers of foam keep everything snug and collector friendly. The instruction/warning sheet ("introduction") is located all the way at the bottom, beneath the last layer of foam.



Sculpting - 4/4 stars
T03B (and its paler counterpart T03A) stands just over 5.5 in (14 cm) tall, which is a little bit shorter than its predecessor T01B, which was about 5.75 in (15 cm) tall. T03B sports a more curvaceous body type and generally looks even better proportioned than its predecessor. The sculpting is very good and precise, something remarkably given the scale and silicone material. The same is true for the head sculpt, which looks much better than the rather bland and anime sculpt that came with T01B -- or it would, if had been professionally painted, but more on that below.



Paint - 1/4 stars
The silicone body and the harder plastic hands and feet, as well as the head sculpt, are given an even female suntan color. This is very good in itself, and as usual notably lighter than the male suntan (compare T03B to TM01A and TM02A). If there is any special coloring on the nipples and "secret woman parts," it is so subtle that I'm not sure I can really tell it is there. But what really hurts this category is the unpainted head sculpt. If they are going to include a head sculpt (and reflect that in the pricing), they ought to paint it, as they have done beautifully before for their boxed sets (I'm using one of them for the T01B body, but even the bland anime head that came with was given a nicely executed precise paint job). Paint a 1/6-scale head well is challenge enough, but doing that to a 1/12-head is almost a cruel joke. I can't claim to have done very well with it, but it gets the job done and is reversible (I didn't seal the acrylics and can easily scrape them off and start again). There are a couple of silver linings -- the basic color of the harder plastic head (and hair pieces) matches the body and the hands and feet, so you do not have to worry about matching the skin tone; and the hair pieces come off, allowing you to paint them thoroughly, and to expose the face completely so that you could paint it more easily (in relative terms).



Articulation - 3/4 stars
Like its predecessor and its male counterparts, T03B is remarkably well articulated for its size, but less well articulated than its 1/6-scale counterparts. That is not surprising in itself, but it can be disappointing, especially in relation to the apparent inability to achieve normal inwards motion with the lower arms. The instruction sheet claims otherwise, and you can get part way there by adjusting the arms from the shoulders, but it is not quite as effective. This is an issue with all TBLeague 1/12-scale bodies. Part of the answer may be provided by the diagram included in the "introduction" (instructions/warning) sheet, which shows that the body's active joints (in fact it makes me wonder whether there is a full stainless steel skeleton in there). You can see it in the photo under the "Things to watch out for" category.



Accessories - 3/4 stars
T03B comes with pairs of relaxed hands and flat feet attached, plus knife grip and pistol grip hands, as well as heel feet for swapping. Why there isn't a pair of first I don't know. There is also a stand, which constitutes a fine but pretty plain metal (?) circular base to which you can attach an adjustable bendable segmented rod with an adjustable clamp at the end. It is nice, but you can usually get the figure to stand on its own without too much trouble.



Outfit - 3/4 stars
This is a basic body and the inclusion of any outfit should be considered an option, a bonus of sorts. And so it is, but perhaps because of the greater scarcity of 1/12-scale garments that might fit, TBLeague has included at least some minimal clothing for all its 1/12-scale bodies so far. This is no exception, but whereas earlier sets included clothing made of cloth, T03B comes with clothing made of soft, stretchy plastic. This includes a two-piece bathing suit (red in this set, yellow with the pale T03A set), with matching wrist and ankle bands (which would help hide the joints between the seamless body and the removable hands and feet, but generally look a little silly). I'm not sure I'm loving this choice, but the pieces definitely look better cut and tailored than the cloth garments that came with T01B.



Fun Factor - 3/4 stars
With another female and two male seamless bodies in this scale already out there, the new release by TBLeague has natural playmates for your shelf or scene. The unpainted head sculpt and slightly restricted articulation (lower arms) are annoyances, but this is still a good figure that lends itself to customization -- you might have plans to use another head anyway. Finding clothing (especially clothing that will fit well) in this scale would be a bigger challenge than in 1/6 scale, and to some extent the same may be true for accessories and diorama pieces.



Value - 2/4 stars
Retailing at about $40 (USD), this is not a cheap base body, but then again it is seamless, very poseable, and has at least basic clothing (even if made of stretchy plastic), as well as a stand. Yet, we paid the same price for its predecessors, and although they did not come with a stand, they had finely painted head sculpts (whether we liked them or not) and actual cloth for the items of clothing. I don't know about you, but I would have preferred that over the stand.



Things to watch out for
Not a whole lot. Do heat up the hands and feet before swapping, and take care to not overstretch or twist the thinner parts of the stretchy plastic outfit. It might not snap very easily, but it might stretch out of shape and look off if you overdo it. I would also be careful when trying to achieve inward motion for the lower arms -- avoid forcing it, lest something snaps. Do check out the "introduction" (instruction/warning) leaflet at the very bottom of the box under all the foam layers.



Overall - 3/4 stars
TBLeague has produced another well articulated and attractive product in this small scale. It is not perfect and not as good as its 1/6-scale counterparts, but it is likely to take care of your seamless needs in 1/12 scale just fine -- for female figures anyway (these are more complete than the male sets). My only real disappointments here are the unpainted head sculpt (which is otherwise very nice) and the continued limited articulation of the lower arms.
